Abstract
The trough lid lifter is a box section, steel, leverage tool to lift the concrete lid of a trough carrying cables. It comprises an L shaped bar to sit on top of the lid, a solitary arm that fits over and underneath the lid, and a lever to enable the person to lift the lid easily. The trough lid lifter enables the concrete lid to be lifted with ease without the need to remove it completely. The cable is then put into place and the lid is then placed back down. Cable can be put into place in less time than with the conventional method, with fewer breakages to the concrete lids and reducing the risk of injury or strain, particularly to the back.
Description
The Trough Lid Lifter
Description:
This invention relates to a device to lift heavy concrete trough lids in the cable laying industry.
At present the concrete trough lids have to be manually lifted and put to one side whilst the cable is put in route. The lid is then manually put back into place. This procedure is both time consuming and physically demanding. It can prove costly as during the process some lids are damaged and it is not uncommon for workers to suffer strain and injury particularly to the back.
The Trough Lid Lifter is a box section, steel, leverage tool which comprises of an L shaped bar that is positioned on top of the trough lid to be lifted, attached is a solitary arm that fits over and underneath the concrete, this enables the person to lift the lid easily using a lever manoeuvre.
The Trough Lid Lifter enables the concrete lid to be lifted with ease without the need to remove it completely. The cable is then put into route and the lid is then placed back down. Example: A 1000 metres of cable can be put into route in less than half the time of the conventional method. With no breakages to the concrete lids in comparison to at least 20% breakages using the present method and from a Health and Safety point of view the use of the lid lifters reduces the risk of injury or strain, particularly to the back.
