Abstract

A method of securing a button 14 to a garment 10 comprises a first step of creating a stitch formation 16 which includes a fusible filament. A second step involves melting the fusible filament to bond portions 18 of the stitch formation 16 to one another, thereby ensuring that the garment 10 has a button 14 secured thereto by a stitch formation 16. The fusible filament may be part of a fusible thread formed of one or more carrier filaments. The thread may include a thermoplastic component such as copolyamide, or a thermosetting component. Either way the fusible filament is thermally activated so as to undergo a molecular change when heated to melt and form a bonding agent. This method of fastening reduces or eliminates the likelihood of the button becoming separated from the garment.
