The following description is merely exemplary in nature and is not intended to limit the present disclosure, application, or uses.
Turning to the figures, specifically FIGS. 1 and 2, a first embodiment of the present disclosure is illustrated. FIG. I illustrates a display package 20 to hold a plurality of stacked saw blades 22. The display package 20 includes a saw blade holding member 24, a hanging display member 26 and a locking device 28.
The saw blade holding device 24 includes a base 30, and retaining troughs 32, 34 and 36 secured with the base 30. The base 30 has an overall circular shape with an aperture 38 aligned with saw blades 22. The retaining troughs 32, 34, 36 are generally unitarily formed with the base 30. The retaining troughs 32, 34, 36 have an overall L-shape in cross-section so that the saw blades are captured and maintained on the base between the retaining troughs 32, 34, 36 and the base 30. One leg of the troughs 32, 34, 36 includes a plurality of fins 35. The fins 35 provide a spacer for the saw blades so that the saw blades do not contact one another in a stacked arrangement. Thus, the teeth are protected from banging against one another. The retaining troughs 32, 34, 36 with the base 30 form a U-shaped channel 40 that receives the peripheral edge of the saw blades 22. Thus, the retaining troughs 32, 34, 36 capture a portion of the peripheral edges of the saw blades 22 to hold them in the display package 20. While three retaining troughs are illustrated, a continuous trough could be utilized.
The retaining troughs 34 and 36 include a portion 42 that is uniformly formed with the base 30. The remaining portion 44 of the retaining troughs 34, 36 is severed at the base along a cut line 46. Additionally, an aperture 48 is formed adjacent the unitary portion 42. Thus, the unitary portion 42 provides a live hinge between itself and the remaining portion 44 of the retaining troughs 34 and 36. Thus, these retaining troughs 34, 36 can be moved away from the base 30 to enable saw blades to be placed into and removed from the display package 20.
A handle portion 44 of the holding member 24 includes a pair of legs 46 and 48 that are, respectively, joined with the remaining portion 44 of the retaining troughs 34 and 36. The legs 46 and 48 join at a body 50 of the handle 44. The legs 46, 48 likewise hold the saw blades in the holding member 24. The body 50 includes a neck 52 and a head 54 that forms a portion of the hanging display 26.
The base 30 also includes a neck 56 and head 58 that are mirror images of neck 52 and head 54 that fit together with one another, as illustrated in FIG. 2, to provide the hanging display member 26.
The hanging display 26 is formed by the two heads 54 and 58. As can be seen, a channel 60 is formed in the heads 54 and 58. The hanging display member 26 is to be hung onto a rack pin by channel 60.
Also, the head 54 and 58 are hollow to receive an electronic article surveillance tag 62. The tag 62 is positioned inside of the heads 54 and 58. Also, the heads 54 and 58 may include releasable interlocking members to hold them with one another.
The locking member 28 includes a pin portion 64 and a head 66. The pin 64 is unitarily formed with the body 50 of the handle 44. The head 66 is passed through an aperture in the base 30. Several types of non-removal devices may be utilized so that the head 66 must be removed from the pin 64 to enable initial access to the saw blades 22 stored inside of the display package 20. Ordinarily, the pin 64 is aligned to pass through vents or gullets in the blades to enable the pin to hold the saw blades in position. After the head 66 is removed from the pin 64, the display package 20 can have the handle 44 portion moved away from the base 30 to open the display package. This enables access to the saw blades 22. Also, a detent or the like may be in the aperture of the base to removably hold the pin in position on the base so that the display package 20 may be utilized as a storage package.
Turning to FIGS. 3-8, an additional embodiment of a display package is illustrated.
The display package 120 includes a blade holding member 124, a hanging display member 126 and a locking device 128.
The blade holding device includes a loop 130 that includes a plurality of circumferential retaining trough members 132 and 134. The circumferential retaining trough members 132 are formed on one side of the loop 130 and the circumferential retaining trough members 134 are formed on the other side of the loop 130. Thus, the alternating pattern of retaining members 132 and 134 form a channel in the trough to receive the saw blades on the loop 130. The base of the loop 130 defines the bottom of the channel 140 formed by the retaining trough members 132 and 134.
The base includes a plurality of fins 135. The fins 135 space the saw blades with respect to one another. The fins 135 can be continuous or discontinuous about the base of the loop 130. One end 142 of the loop is received or formed with the hanging display member 126. The free end of the loop 130 includes an arrowhead 146.
The hanging display member 126 includes a first 148 and second half 150.
The halves 148, 150 are best illustrated in FIG. 5. Half 148 includes a plurality of posts 152 which project through apertures 154 in bosses 156 formed in half 150.
The post 152 are split so that once they pass through the aperture 154, they expand non-removable from the apertures. A hinge 158 separates the halves 148 and 150 from one another. Also, an electric article surveillance tag holder 160 is formed on half 148. Thus, once the two halves are folded upon one another and the posts 152 pass through the apertures 154 and the bosses 156, the electronic article surveillance tag 62 becomes non-removable from the hanging display member 126.
The locking member 128 includes a latch 162. The arrowhead 146 is positioned in a cut out 164 formed in half 148. Hanging display 150 includes a blocking member 166 that blocks the arrowhead 146 inside of the hanging display 126 when it is in a closed position as illustrated in FIG. 6. The arrowhead 146 also includes a tail 168 that projects out of the blocking member 166. The blocking member 166 forms an aperture 170 that enables the arrowhead 146 to be moved in and out of the hanging display member 126 after the initial opening of the package 120.
Latch 162 has an overall L-shape member with one end formed on the half 150. The latch 162 includes an aperture 172 that receives the tail 168 of the arrowhead 146. The latch 162 includes a hinge 174 that secures it with the hanging display half 150. The latch 162 also includes a tang 176 with a projecting barb 178.
The tang 176 and barb 178 are inserted into an aperture 180 in the hanging display half 148 to lock the latch 162 onto the hanging display half 148 as illustrated in FIG. 7. Once the latch 162 is locked in position, it cannot be removed without damaging the display package 120. After the initial opening of the display package 120, by prying the latch 162 upward with a screwdriver or the like, the tang 176 and bard 178 are removed from the aperture 180. After this occurs, the latch 162 can be trimmed off at the hinge 174 to remove the latch 162. After the latch 162 is removed, the display package 120 may be utilized as a storage container for the saw blades 22.
Turning to FIGS. 9-15, an additional embodiment of a display package is illustrated. The display package 220 includes a saw blade holding member 224, a hanging display member 226 and a locking device 228.
The holding member 222 includes a loop 230 that includes peripheral retaining trough members 232 and 234. Retaining trough members 232 and 234 are on opposite sides of the loop 230 to retain the saw blades 22 between them.
Additionally, the loop 230 includes a pair of sectors 236 and 238. The sectors 236 and 238 are connected to one another by a hinge 240. Accordingly, the sectors 236 and 238 are moved with respect to one another to form a portion of the trough to retain the saw blades within the loop 230. The sectors 238 include a peripheral flange 242 to close off the channel formed between the sectors once they are folded to oppose one another. Thus, a trough is formed along the arch portion of the sectors 236 and 238. Fins 235 are formed on the loop 230 and sectors 236, 238.
The fins 235 act as spacers as previously described. The loop 230 includes a free end with an arrowhead 246. Additionally, the sector 238 includes a box member 248 to receive the arrowhead 246.
The hanging display member 226 includes two halves 252 and 254. One half includes a post 256 like that previously described. The other half includes an aperture 258 to receive the post 256 to retain the two halves together. The half 254 includes an electronic article surveillance tag retaining slot 260. An aperture 262 is formed in both halves to align with one another to enable the hanging display member 226 to be positioned onto a store rack.
FIGS. 11 and 12 provide a better understanding of the locking mechanism 228.
In FIG. 11, the locking mechanism 228 is illustrated in three different positions moving from an open to a closed or locking position. The locking member 228 includes an L-shaped base 270 having an hinge 272 connecting the base 270 with a latch door 274. The latch door 274 includes a pair of tangs 276 and 278 which include barbs 280 that catch with the tail 282 of the arrowhead 246 and a ledge of the loop 230. With the latched door 274 in a closed locking position, the tangs 276 and 278 have one barb 280 under a ledge 284 formed on the loop 230 and the other barb through an aperture 286 in the tail 282. Thus, the latch door 274 is locked in position as illustrated in FIG. 12 covering the tail 282 of the arrowhead 246. Thus, this provides a locking member 228 that must be destroyed in order to open the display package 220.
Once the display package 220 is initially opened, by a screwdriver or the like prying the latch door 274 open to remove the barbs from underneath the ledges 284 and aperture 286, the base 270 of the locking member can be broken away from the box 248 to eliminate the locking latch 274. Also, the tail 282 is broken away from the arrowhead 246. After this occurs, the arrowhead 246 can be removed from the box member 248 by pressing its end 290 towards the loop 230 as illustrated in FIG. 13.
As the end 290 approaches the loop 230, the arrowhead 246 becomes smaller which enable it to be removed from the box 248. Thus, the display package 220 becomes a storage package for a plurality of saw blades enabling multiple use of the package to store multiple saw blades.
The description of the invention is merely exemplary in nature and, thus, variations that do not depart from the gist of the invention are intended to be within the scope of the invention. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention.
