Abstract

A non invasive door restraint comprising a saddle housing 1 which engages over a door edge and includes an apertured securing coupling 4 to receive a detachable securing arm 6 by means of an apertured shaft 5, the restraining arm can be rotated and secured at 90 degree intervals to be either horizontal or vertical by means such as a padlock. The door restraint saddle housing has a clearance allowance 3 and a reinforcing plate 2 and an anti-rattle spacer 7 may optionally be secured to the door restraint arm.

Description

Non invasive door restraint with a detachable restraining arm.
Conventional door restraints are invasive and require a proficient level of skill to fit them. Non invasive, mechanically free fixing door restraints do address those issues but only within certain limitations. Older style buildings with deeper recessed doorways require a door restraint with a restraining arm that has a significantly greater reach capability. Unfortunately, this longer reach arrangement can sometimes cause the restraining arm to foul on either the door frame or the door reveal, thereby preventing the door from closing.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a non invasive door restraint with a detachable restraining arm. Additionally, it is a very common house building practice for ground floor and first floor doorways to be constructed to different size depths, within the same dwelling. The availability of individual, detachable and interchangeable restraining arms with various reach capabilities give this restraint a more practical, universal application within a typical household.
This is a further modification to my invention that was disclosed in my earlier pattern, GB2448954A.

In figure 1, a non invasive door restraint with a detachable restraining arm :: comprising a door saddle I which provides non invasive means for attaching the :. restraint to either the top or bottom lock side corner of a left or right hand hinged * internally opening door. On the front of the restraint is an allowance for door stop clearance 3 and a reinforcing plate 2 upon which an apertured securing coupling 4 is sited in order to receive an apertured shaft 5 which provides part of a shackling means for arresting the otherwise detachable and interchangeable restraining arm 6 in either a horizontal or vertical locking position. An anti rattle spacer 7 can be optionally secured onto the back of the accommodating restraining arm 6 by a mechanically fixing means 8 to compensate for any slack which may exist between the restraining arm 6 and the door surround.
