Abstract
247,246. Marks, E. G. R., (Swenson Evaporator Co.). Sept. 13, 1924. Separate heater and evaporator apparatus. - Vacuum evaporating apparatus of the Yaryan type described in Specification 14162/86 isconstructed with the parts which contact with the liquid being evaporated of materials resistant to corrosion such as iron alloy containing 11-15 per cent of silicon, or vitreous material such as glass. Fig. 1 shows one unit of a multiple-effect apparatus. The inlet hecders 6 are connected to the outlet headers 7 by a series of tubes 3 formed of corrosion-resistant iron allov contained in a heating-casing 2 formed of steel. Liquid and vapour are discharged from the header 7 into a vapour separating chamber 23 containing baffles 28, Liquid passes away through an outlet 29 and vapour through an outlet 31 and foam catchers 33. The tubes 3 are connected by tubular junction pieces 4 which are wider at the inlet end than the outlet end and are secured so as to form tight joints with the ends of the tubes and also with the casing 2. In a modified apparatus particularly for evaporating fruit juices, the tubes 3 are formed of glass extending through the heads of the casing and connected by glass bends secured by rubber connections. The heating tubes discharge into a cylindrical stoneware vapour separator.
