Abstract

A clarifier filtration unit comprising a reed section and a filter section comprising loose filter media preferably shingle or plastic. Preferably the clarifier filtration unit contains reeds within a centre section of the filtration unit and three outer sections of the filtration unit contain shingle and plastic media. Preferably, in use water is directed from a treatment works into the centre of the reed section, passes through a shingle medium, support grid and plastic medium before entering an effluent chamber from where it is discharged. Preferably the reed section allows settlement to take place and lowers ammonia levels. The reed section and filter section may be formed as inner and outer sections and may be provided with covers.

Description

Description
The environment agency places water quality consents against waste water treatment works that discharges the treated water into any water course or the surrounding land.
This invention is designed to take out the solids that are still present after treatment from a treatment works so that it discharged within the consent imposed up it.
Clarifiers already on the market do not prevent algae growth or any foreign bodies from entering the system which will cause blockages as this one does which considerably affects the final discharge to the water course.
Many of the other clarifiers are, because of the associated problems mentioned also higher in maintenance.
Very few if any combine all the elements needed to ensure a quality effluent such as Settlement, filtration and an introduction of de nitrification.
This design includes the process of settlement, filtration and de nitrification while also ensuring that no foreign bodies or algae growth can access the tank sections. This will allow a more regular quality of final effluent to be produced and will be less liable to blocking.
A lower maintenance program is also achieved by this system.
This is achieved by directing the flow from the waste water treatment works into the centre of the tank A via the inlet pipe item 02 where settlement takes place and some lowering of any ammonia present in the water, by the reeds.
It then flows up through item 04 into section B and down through a topping of shingle through a GRP grid and through a plastic media.
The flow splits to enter sections D and C from the bottom rising upwards through more of the Plastic media, GRP grid and topping of shingle.
From there it flows over into section E the final effluent chamber before being discharged at a regulated height through item 08. Items
Item 1 shows the inlet pipe to the centre section A Item 4 is the outlet pipe from section A into section B Items 5 6 and 7 is the GRP grid which is positioned between the plastic media and the shingle.
The shingle stops the media from floating thus retaining better filtration.
Items 9 10 11 and 12 are lids which covers sections A B C 0 and E Item 3 is a GRP platform which supports the reeds in section A positioned just under the surface.
Item 13 is the de sludge pipe [takes out settlement returning it to the inlet] from section A

Claims (4)

  1. Claims 1 Reeds introduce oxygen into the water, take up some of the nutrients left in the water and lower the ammonia level, If any is present.
  2. 2 Settlement prior to filtration takes out the larger suspended solids present in waste water.
  3. 3 Further filtration through a layer of shingle and the plastic media inserted in the three sections of the unit take out any smaUer suspended solids that may be stifl be present after the initial settlement phase present.
  4. 4 Bacteria build up within the plastic media will further clean up the waste water effluent.Allows for de sludging [taking out surplus settlement from the centre section] 6 Stops debris from falling into the appliance by covering with lids.7 Stops algae growth forming on the surface by growing weeds on the surface of the centre section.8 Retains a quantity of discharge for sampling.9 Retains treated effluent for wash down purposes if required.Low maintenance.
