247,142. S³d-Berliner Industrie Ges. Feb. 4, 1925, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Records, blanks for. - A plastic composition for making moulded sound records consists of, or comprises a condensation product formed by the action of an aldehyde or ketone on coal-tar creosote. Other phenols such as hydroquinone or resorcin may be incorporated, either by addition before the condensation reaction between the creosote and aldehyde &c. occurs, or afterwards; or separate condensation products of pure phenols with aldehydes may be prepared and added to the product obtained from creosote. Filling materials such as barium sulphate, soot, or fibre, may be added prior to or during the chemical action. Creosote contained in benzine obtained by low-temperature distillation of coal, or in benzine obtained from lignite tar or lignite oils, is stated to be suitable, for carrying out the invention. The composition obtained remains plastic for a certain time, during which it may receive sound-record impressions, but eventually becomes hard and infusible. When first formed it may be cast into blanks, or, whilst still liquid or doughy, may be squirted or spread on cardboard &c. sheets.
