Abstract

A device 1 to secure pallet trucks to the inside of commercial vehicles and trailers comprises a box or cup with lugs or fixings 4 to secure it to vehicle load rails. The handle 3 of the truck is secured in the box by a securing pin 2 located through holes and held in place by a split or cotter pin through hole 8. The device prevents the truck moving during transport.

Description

Pallet Truck Box Lock This invention relates to a device that will retain a pallet truck securely to the inside of a van/commercial vehicle or trailer making the pallet truck safe from movement while vehicle is in transit or stationary.
Most products when transported in bulk are placed onto pallets and loaded into Lorries or containers for distribution and where a fork lift truck is not able to access the load pallet trucks are used to manually move the pallets.
However, due to manual handling laws only a certain weight may be lifted which these pallet trucks normally exceed and when the compartment is empty these trucks have to be lifted onto something (usually a spare tyre) to prevent them from rolling about when the vehicle starts moving again. The other solution to this problem is to tie the pallet truck to something although if this is not done correctly it leaves the hazard of it falling on whoever opens the trailer door at the other end of the journey.
To overcome these problems this present invention proposes a way of fixing the pallet truck to the inside of a vehicle using a common locking system or load rails' found in most commercial vehicles that is easy to use and prevents the need of any lifting whatsoever. This is achieved by rolling the pallet truck up to the box lock and securing it into place using the pallet truck handle. It is also void of any finger traps whilst participating in the maneuver and it allows a solo operation.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 shows the box lock with a securing pin Figure 2 shows the box lock with an alternative securing arrangement Figure 3 shows the box lock with an alternative fixing arrangement In figure 1 the box lock item 1 is secured to vehicle load rail using securing lugs shown as items 4 in the direction as numbered 5. The pallet truck handle item 3 is placed into the securing aperture of the box lock item 1 in the direction of number 7. The securing pin number 2 is then located through the holes as shown as direction 6, finally a split or cotter pin is placed into hole number 8 to lock pin number 2 into position.
Figure Number 2 shows an alternative embodiment by securing the pallet truck handle by using a latching system shown as item 2 instead of using a pin.
Figure Number 3 shows a further alternative embodiment that incorporates different lugs so that the box lock can be used with alternative load locking systems and rails. Figure 3 shows lugs commonly used with most standard load track, figure 4 used with what is commonly known as garment track and figure 5 is used with Universal track and E track. Other examples not shown work with track used for Refrigeration, double decking trailers and other known systems are Keyhole track and Captive Track Claim

Claims (5)

1. A pallet truck securing unit that secures a pallet truck by its handle to the inside of any vehicle/trailer utilizing a load locking rail system installed to the said vehicle/trailer prior or after purchase by means of a restraint that incorporates a cup or box with securing pin to prevent movement of pallet truck while vehicle/trailer is in motion.
2. A pallet truck securing unit according to claimi that utilises any other form of pin, bolt or fastener to create a stay with securing unit.
3. A pallet truck securing unit according to claimi that utilises any form of latching or sliding mechanism to create a stay with securing unit.
4. A pallet truck securing unit according to claimi that incorporates any other form of lug or fixing that may be used with alternative load rail systems.
5. A pallet truck securing unit according to claimi that provides the same utility by securing the pallet truck elsewhere on the pallet truck body.
