Abstract

Fats and fatty oils, extracting. - Fat is extracted from fresh or boiled bones of whales and other large marine creatures by breaking the hard outer layer, pulping the spongy interior, and removing the oil by draining, pressing, centrifuging or other means, or by a combination of such means. The operation may be conducted at atmospheric or higher temperature. The prior extraction of oil or fat from the bones of animals by grinding and subsequent pressure of the disintegrated mass is referred to.
