Abstract

A toilet/bidet unit, which comprises: a bowl 3 on which a user sits, wherein the bowl includes a cavity 11 which collects body waste from the user; a pumped flushing assembly (17, Fig 5) which is operative to deliver flushing water via nozzles 19 to flush the bowl to clear collected body waste therefrom; a washing assembly (33, Fig 6) via washing arm 35 which is operative to wash a user when sitting on the bowl; a drying assembly (51, Fig 8) which is operative to dry a user when sitting on the bowl; and a controller (63, Fig 1) which controls operation of the flushing assembly, the washing assembly and the drying assembly. Preferably the bowl is rimless.

Description

TOILET/BIDET UNIT The present invention relates to a toilet/bidet unit.
Toilets and bidets exist in many various designs, and it is an aim of the present invention to provide an improved toilet/bidet unit, and in particular a combined toilet/bidet unit.
In one aspect the present invention provides a toilet/bidet unit, comprising: a bowl on which a user in use sits, wherein the bowl includes a cavity which collects body waste from the user; a pumped flushing assembly which is operative to deliver flushing water to flush the bowl to clear collected body waste therefrom; a washing assembly which is operative to wash a user when sitting on the bowl; a drying assembly which is operative to dry a user when sitting on the bowl; and a controller which controls operation of the flushing assembly, the washing assembly and the drying assembly.
In one embodiment the bowl is rimless.
In one embodiment the bowl includes a trap which contains a volume of water into which the body waste is collected and through which the flushing water is delivered.
In one embodiment the flushing assembly comprises a plurality of flushing * * nozzles which provide for delivery of flushing water into the cavity of the bowl, and a flushing pump which is operative to deliver flushing water to the flushing nozzles. **.* * * *
In one embodiment the flushing nozzles are configured to deliver high-pressure flows of flushing water over the surface of the cavity of the bowl, which are such as to develop a high-pressure vortical flow which cleans the surface of the cavity of the bowl and flushes collected body waste from the bowl.
In one embodiment the flushing nozzles are disposed to a rear surface of the cavity of the bowl.
In one embodiment the flushing pump is controllable to deliver the flushing water at at least one of a predetermined volume and a predetermined pressure for each individual user.
In one embodiment the toilet/bidet unit further comprises: a fragrance element for delivering a fragrance; and an air flow generator for generating an air flow during operation of the flushing assembly which is delivered to the fragrance element to disperse fragrance therefrom.
In one embodiment the flushing pump is operatively coupled to the air flow generator to generate the air flow during operation of the flushing pump.
In one embodiment the air flow generator comprises an impeller.
In one embodiment the washing assembly comprises a washing arm which is movable to an operative position in which the washing arm extends into the cavity of the bowl to provide for washing of the user with washing water, a washing pump which is operative to deliver washing water to the washing arm, and a displacement mechanism which is operative to displace the washing arm to the operative position. * **
In one embodiment the washing pump is controllable to deliver the washing water at at least one of a predetermined volume and a predetermined pressure for each individual user. ***
In one embodiment the washing assembly further comprises a heater for heating the washing water.

In one embodiment the heater is controllable to set the temperature of the heated washing water individually for each user.
In one embodiment the washing arm is movable between a retracted, inoperative position and an extended, operative position by operation of the displacement mechanism.
In one embodiment the displacement mechanism is controllable to set an extent of the extension of the washing arm in the extended, operative position, which allows for the position of the washing arm to be set individually for each user.
In one embodiment the washing arm includes at least one delivery nozzle, preferably a plurality of delivery nozzles, from which a flow of washing water is delivered to the user.
In one embodiment the cavity of the bowl includes a through aperture in a wall surface thereof, and the washing arm comprises an elongate body, which is slideably disposed in the through aperture in the cavity of the bowl, and a sealing member which is disposed to a distal end of the elongate body and seals the through aperture when the washing arm is in the inoperative position.
In one embodiment the drying assembly comprises a warm air blower which * * is operative to deliver a flow of warm drying air into the cavity of the bowl to dry the user. *** * * * **.I
*:::: In one embodiment the washing arm is movable to a retracted, * intermediate drying position, in which the through aperture in the cavity of the bowl is open and allows for delivery of the warm drying air therethrough, and the warm air blower is fluidly connected to the through aperture in the cavity of the bowl, such that, with the washing arm in the intermediate drying position, the warm air blower is operative to deliver the warm drying air into the cavity of the bowl to dry the user.
In one embodiment the warm air blower is controllable to deliver the warm drying air at at least one of a predetermined volume, a predetermined flow rate and a predetermined temperature for each individual user.
In another aspect the present invention provides a toilet unit, comprising: a bowl on which a user in use sits, wherein the bowl includes a cavity which collects body waste from the user; and a pumped flushing assembly which is operative to deliver flushing water to flush the bowl to clear collected body waste therefrom.
In one embodiment the bowl is rimless.
In one embodiment the bowl includes a trap which contains a volume of water into which the body waste is collected and through which the flushing water is delivered, In one embodiment the flushing assembly comprises a plurality of flushing nozzles which provide for delivery of flushing water into the cavity of the bowl, and a flushing pump which is operative to deliver flushing water to the flushing nozzles.

In one embodiment the toilet unit further comprises: a flushing assembly which is operative to deliver flushing water to flush the bowl to clear collected body waste therefrom, wherein the flushing assembly is * operatively coupled to the air flow generator to generate the air flow during operation of the flushing assembly.
In one embodiment the flushing assembly comprises a flushing pump for delivering flushing water, and the flushing pump is operatively coupled to the air flow generator to generate the air flow during operation of the flushing pump.

In a still further aspect the present invention provides a bidet unit, comprising: a bowl on which a user in use sits; a washing assembly which is operative to wash a user when sitting on the bowl; a drying assembly which is operative to dry a user when sitting on the bowl; and a controller which controls operation of the washing assembly and the drying assembly.
In one embodiment the bowl is rimless.

In this embodiment, as illustrated in Figures 4(a) to (c), the trap 12 includes an outlet section 14, here in the form of a pipe, which includes a helical formation 15, here in the form of helical grooves or projections, which acts to cause the waste flushing water to have a vortical or whirlpool action, which causes the flushed body waste to travel in the central section of the outlet section 14 and also provides a scrubbing action which cleans the wall of the outlet section 14.
In this embodiment the bowl 3 is a self-standing design, but alternatively could be wall-hung.
In this embodiment the bowl 3 is rimless. This contrasts with the conventional designs which include rims, from which the flushing water is delivered.
In this embodiment the bowl 3 is formed of a ceramic material, such as porcelain, but alternatively could be formed from metal or composite materials.
In this embodiment the cavity 11 of the bowl 3 includes a through aperture 16 in the upper, rear wall surface thereof, in which a washing arm 35 is located, as will be described in more detail hereinbelow.
As illustrated in Figure 5, the toilet/bidet unit further comprises a pumped flushing assembly 17 which is operative to flush the bowl 3.

-10 -In this embodiment the flushing nozzles 19, here disposed to the rear surface of the cavity 11 of the bowl 3, are configured to deliver high-pressure flows of flushing water, here in the form of fanned jets, over the surface of the cavity 11 of the bowl 3 and into the trap 12 of the bowl 3, which are such as to develop a high-pressure vortical flow which cleans the surface of the cavity 11 of the bowl 3 and flushes the trap 12 of the bowl 3.
In this embodiment the pump 21 is controllable to deliver a predetermined volume of flushing water at a predetermined pressure, and allows for these parameters to be set individually for each user. This configuration contrasts with conventional systems, which utilise a gravitational flow of flushing water from a cistern.
In this embodiment the pump 21 is operatively coupled to an air flow generator 23, here in the form of an impeller, which acts to generate an air flow during the flushing operation which is delivered through a fragrance element 61, as will be described in more detail hereinbelow.
As illustrated in Figures 6 and 7, the toilet/bidet unit further comprises a washing assembly 33 which is operative to wash a user when sitting on the bowl 3.

As will be described in more detail hereinbelow, the washing arm 35 is also movable to a retracted, intermediate drying position, which allows for delivery of a warm drying air through the through aperture 16 in the cavity 11 of the bowl 3.

In this embodiment the washing arm 35 comprises an elongate body 43 which is slideably disposed in the through aperture 16 in the cavity 11 of the bowl 3, and a sealing member 45, here in the form of an annular flange, which is disposed to a forward end of the elongate body 43 and seals the through aperture 16 when the washing arm 35 is in the fully-retracted, inoperative position.
In this embodiment the heater 37 is controllable to provide the washing *::: water at a predetermined temperature, and allows for the temperature to * be set individually for each user.
. : In this embodiment the pump 39 is controllable to deliver a predetermined volume of washing water at a predetermined pressure, and allows for these parameters to be set individually for each user.
-12 -In this embodiment the washing assembly 33 further comprises a cleaning unit 46 for cleaning the washing arm 35 with cleaning water, in this embodiment during retraction of the washing arm 35 from the operative, extended position, as illustrated in Figure 7.
In this embodiment the cleaning unit 46 comprises a cleaning nozzle 47 which provides for delivery of cleaning water over the washing arm 35, which, during retraction of the washing arm 35 from the operative, extended position, acts to clean any deposits from the washing arm 35, and a pump 48 which is operative to deliver cleaning water to the cleaning nozzle 47.
In this embodiment the cleaning nozzle 47, here disposed to the rear surface of the cavity 11 of the bowl 3, is configured to deliver a high-pressure flow of cleaning water, here in the form of a fanned jet, over the washing arm 35.
In this embodiment the pump 48 is controllable to deliver a predetermined volume of cleaning water at a predetermined pressure.
As illustrated in Figure 8, the toilet/bidet unit further comprises a drying assembly 51 which is operative, following use of the washing assembly 33, to dry a user when sitting on the bowl 3.
In this embodiment the drying assembly 51 comprises a warm air blower 53 which is fluidly connected through a manifold 55 to the through aperture 16 which opens to the rear surface of the cavity 11 of the bowl 3, and, with the washing arm 35 of the washing assembly 33 in a retracted, intermediate drying position, in which the through aperture 16 in the cavity 11 of the * *..

The toilet/bidet unit further comprises a fragrance element 61 through which a flow of air is delivered in the flushing operation, in this embodiment as delivered by the air flow generator 23 which is operatively coupled to the pump 21 of the flushing assembly 17. With this configuration, fragrance is delivered to the room in which the toilet/bidet unit is located with each flushing operation.
The toilet/bidet unit further comprises a controller 63 which provides for operation of the flushing assembly 17, the washing assembly 33 and the drying assembly 51, and allows for individual user specification of the associated flushing, washing and drying parameters.

Claims (51)

  1. -14 -CLAIMS1. A toilet/bidet unit, comprising: a bowl on which a user in use sits, wherein the bowl includes a cavity which collects body waste from the user; a pumped flushing assembly which is operative to deliver flushing water to flush the bowl to clear collected body waste therefrom; a washing assembly which is operative to wash a user when sitting on the bowl; a drying assembly which is operative to dry a user when sitting on the bowl; and a controller which controls operation of the flushing assembly, the washing assembly and the drying assembly.
  2. 2. The toilet/bidet unit of claim 1, wherein the bowl is rimless.
  3. 3. The toilet/bidet unit of claim 1 or 2, wherein the bowl includes a trap which contains a volume of water into which the body waste is collected and through which the flushing water is delivered.
  4. 4. The toilet/bidet unit of any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the flushing assembly comprises a plurality of flushing nozzles which provide for delivery of flushing water into the cavity of the bowl, and a flushing pump which is operative to deliver flushing water to the flushing nozzles.

  6. 6. The toilet/bidet unit of claim 5, wherein the flushing nozzles are disposed to a rear surface of the cavity of the bowl.
  7. 7. The toilet/bidet unit of any of claims 4 to 6, wherein the flushing pump is controllable to deliver the flushing water at at least one of a predetermined volume and a predetermined pressure for each individual user.
  8. 8. The toilet/bidet unit of any of claims 1 to 7, further comprising: a fragrance element for delivering a fragrance; and an air flow generator for generating an air flow during operation of the flushing assembly which is delivered to the fragrance element to disperse fragrance therefrom.
  9. 9. The toilet/bidet unit of claim 8 when appendant upon any of claims 4 to 7, wherein the flushing pump is operatively coupled to the air flow generator to generate the air flow during operation of the flushing pump.
  10. 10. The toilet/bidet unit of claim 8 or 9, wherein the air flow generator comprises an impeller.
  11. 11. The toilet/bidet unit of any of claims 1 to 10, wherein the washing assembly comprises a washing arm which is movable to an operative position in which the washing arm extends into the cavity of the bowl to provide for washing of the user with washing water, a washing pump which is operative to deliver washing water to the washing arm, and a displacement mechanism which is operative to displace the washing arm to the operative position. * ***
  12. 12. The toilet/bidet unit of claim 11, wherein the washing pump is controllable to deliver the washing water at at least one of a * S. * S S S.. * * *.**.. S *

  13. 13. The toilet/bidet unit of claim 11 or 12, wherein the washing assembly further comprises a heater for heating the washing water.
  14. 14. The toilet/bidet unit of claim 13, wherein the heater is controllable to set the temperature of the heated washing water individually for each user.
  15. 15. The toilet/bidet unit of any of claims 11 to 14, wherein the washing arm is movable between a retracted, inoperative position and an extended, operative position by operation of the displacement mechanism.
  16. 16. The toilet/bidet unit of claim 15, wherein the displacement mechanism is controllable to set an extent of the extension of the washing arm in the extended, operative position, which allows for the position of the washing arm to be set individually for each user.
  17. 17. The toilet/bidet unit of any of claims 11 to 16, wherein the washing arm includes at least one delivery nozzle, preferably a plurality of delivery nozzles, from which a flow of washing water is delivered to the user.
  18. 18. The toilet/bidet unit of claim 17, wherein the cavity of the bowl includes a through aperture in a wall surface thereof, and the washing arm comprises an elongate body, which is slideably disposed in the through aperture in the cavity of the bowl, and a sealing member which is disposed to a distal end of the elongate body and : seals the through aperture when the washing arm is in the inoperative position. * S. * * .SS

  19. 19. The toilet/bidet unit of any of claims 1 to 18, wherein the drying assembly comprises a warm air blower which is operative to deliver a flow of warm drying air into the cavity of the bowl to dry the user.

The toilet/bidet unit of claims 18 and 19, wherein the washing arm is movable to a retracted, intermediate drying position, in which the through aperture in the cavity of the bowl is open and allows for delivery of the warm drying air therethrough, and the warm air blower is fluidly connected to the through aperture in the cavity of the bowl, such that, with the washing arm in the intermediate drying position, the warm air blower is operative to deliver the warm drying air into the cavity of the bowl to dry the user.
  21. 21. The toilet/bidet unit of claim 19 or 20, wherein the warm air blower is controllable to deliver the warm drying air at at least one of a predetermined volume, a predetermined flow rate and a predetermined temperature for each individual user.
  22. 22. A toilet unit, comprising: a bowl on which a user in use sits, wherein the bowl includes a cavity which collects body waste from the user; and a pumped flushing assembly which is operative to deliver flushing water to flush the bowl to clear collected body waste therefrom.
  23. 23. The toilet unit of claim 22, wherein the bowl is rimless.
  24. 24. The toilet unit of claim 22 or 23, wherein the bowl includes a trap which contains a volume of water into which the body waste is collected and through which the flushing water is delivered. s.

  25. 25. The toilet unit of any of claims 22 to 24, wherein the flushing assembly comprises a plurality of flushing nozzles which provide for delivery of flushing water into the cavity of the bowl, and a flushing -18 -pump which is operative to deliver flushing water to the flushing nozzles.

The toilet unit of claim 25, wherein the flushing nozzles are configured to deliver high-pressure flows of flushing water over the surface of the cavity of the bowl, which are such as to develop a high-pressure vortical flow which cleans the surface of the cavity of the bowl and flushes collected body waste from the bowl.
  27. 27. The toilet unit of claim 26, wherein the flushing nozzles are disposed to a rear surface of the cavity of the bowl.
  28. 28. The toilet unit of any of claims 25 to 27, wherein the flushing pump is controllable to deliver the flushing water at at least one of a predetermined volume and a predetermined pressure for each individual user.
  29. 29. The toilet unit of any of claims 22 to 28, further comprising: a fragrance element for delivering a fragrance; and an air flow generator for generating an air flow during operation of the flushing assembly which is delivered to the fragrance element to disperse fragrance therefrom.
  30. 30. The toilet unit of claim 29 when appendant upon any of claims 25 to 28, wherein the flushing pump is operatively coupled to the air flow generator to generate the air flow during operation of the flushing pump. * * * S S * S.

A toilet unit, comprising: * *S S.. i 0.5.5 -19 -a bowl on which a user in use sits, wherein the bowl includes a cavity which collects body waste from the user; a fragrance element for delivering a fragrance; and an air flow generator for generating an air flow during operation of the toilet which is delivered to the fragrance element to disperse fragrance therefrom.

The toilet unit of claim 32, further comprising: a flushing assembly which is operative to deliver flushing water to flush the bowl to clear collected body waste therefrom, wherein the flushing assembly is operatively coupled to the air flow generator to generate the air flow during operation of the flushing assembly.
  34. 34. The toilet unit of claim 33, wherein the flushing assembly comprises a flushing pump for delivering flushing water, and the flushing pump is operatively coupled to the air flow generator to generate the air flow during operation of the flushing pump.
  35. 35. The toilet unit of any of claims 32 to 34, wherein the air flow generator comprises an impeller.
  36. 36. A bidet unit, comprising: a bowl on which a user in use sits; a washing assembly which is operative to wash a user when sitting on the bowl; a drying assembly which is operative to dry a user when sitting on the bowl; and a controller which controls operation of the washing assembly and the drying assembly. *0

The bidet unit of claim 36 or 37, wherein the washing assembly comprises a washing arm which is movable to an operative position in which the washing arm extends into the cavity of the bowl to provide for washing of the user with washing water, a washing pump which is operative to deliver washing water to the washing arm, and a displacement mechanism which is operative to displace the washing arm to the operative position.
  39. 39. The bidet unit of claim 38, wherein the washing pump is controllable to deliver the washing water at at least one of a predetermined volume and a predetermined pressure for each individual user.
  40. 40. The bidet unit of claim 38 or 39, wherein the washing assembly further comprises a heater for heating the washing water.
  41. 41. The bidet unit of claim 40, wherein the heater is controllable to set the temperature of the heated washing water individually for each user.
  42. 42. The bidet unit of any of claims 38 to 41, wherein the washing arm is movable between a retracted, inoperative position and an extended, operative position by operation of the displacement mechanism.
  43. 43. The bidet unit of claim 42, wherein the displacement mechanism is controllable to set an extent of the extension of the washing arm in the extended, operative position, which allows for the position of the washing arm to be set individually for each user. *�..*:
  44. 44. The bidet unit of any of claims 38 to 43, wherein the washing arm includes at least one delivery nozzle, preferably a plurality of delivery nozzles, from which a flow of washing water is delivered to the user.

The bidet unit of claim 44, wherein the cavity of the bowl includes a through aperture in a wall surface thereof, and the washing arm comprises an elongate body, which is slideably disposed in the through aperture in the cavity of the bowl, and a sealing member which is disposed to a distal end of the elongate body and seals the through aperture when the washing arm is in the inoperative position.
  46. 46. The bidet unit of any of claims 36 to 45, wherein the drying assembly comprises a warm air blower which is operative to deliver a flow of warm drying air into the cavity of the bowl to dry the user.

The bidet unit of claims 45 and 46, wherein the washing arm is movable to a retracted, intermediate drying position, in which the through aperture in the cavity of the bowl is open and allows for delivery of the warm drying air therethrough, and the warm air blower is fluidly connected to the through aperture in the cavity of the bowl, such that, with the washing arm in the intermediate drying position, the warm air blower is operative to deliver the warm drying air into the cavity of the bowl to dry the user.
  48. 48. The bidet unit of claim 46 or 47, wherein the warm air blower is controllable to deliver the warm drying air at at least one of a predetermined volume, a predetermined flow rate and a predetermined temperature for each individual user. * **
