Abstract

A pair of gardening shears or secateurs include a main cutter10, a secondary cutter20pivotally connected with the main cutter, two force arms50pivotally connected with the main cutter, and a drive plate40, having a drive gear41, secured on the two force arms to move in concert with the force arms. The main cutter and the secondary cutter are sandwiched between the two force arms. The secondary cutter has an elongate slot25in which a pivot member54which passes, the pivot member also passes through pivot holes52and13in the main cutter and the force arm. The secondary cutter has an extension22which is bent at the distal end which has a driven gear23which meshes with the drive gear. The force applied on the main and secondary cutters is distributed by the force arms to facilitate operation of the main and secondary cutters.
