Abstract
A waterproof case for a flare comprises a pressure resistant, water proof cylinder, made from hard plastic, with a hard base (1) and eyelet for attachment (2) encompassing a lid (6) with a pin hinge (3) and a snap latch (4) closing on to a waterproof seal (5) with a void for a G.P.S.Chip in the lid (6). A plastic selection of inserts may be used to accommodate different sized flares for different applications.
Description
Diver flare This invention relates to a device that keeps a pyrotechnic totally dry after immersion to depth in water and allows the user primarily a recreational diver, if required, to attract attention on the surface by using the fare contained in the casing and additionally to be able to trigger a G.P.S. Signal from a transmitter contained in the cap once the latch is unclipped to aid recovery by air or water in the event of being separated or left by a dive vessel in the sea, or expanse of open water.
This device can also be applied to other applications outside of diving, mountaineering, sailing ect where a totally dry environment is required for a signal flare.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawing i/i The cylinder is made from high quality hard extruded plastic with a solid base at one end (i) with an eyelet to attach to a diving jacket (2) , the lid on the top has a small pin hinge () ,a latch to close and seal the lid (4)and a o ring in place on the face of the cylinder body to allow a watertight seal when the lid is closed on to it () also in the top of the lid there is a void to accommodate a G.P.S. Chip activated when the lid is opened (6) . Inside the cylinder there is a spring in the base to allow the flare to be pushed up when the lid is opened allowing the diver to extract the flare with ease. The cylinder is large enough so that a selection of additional inserts can be used to accommodate different diameter flares to suit different applications and when inserted with the flare in to the tube it prevents the flare from rattling inside the cylinder.
