Abstract

A guitar comprising a single, fretted neck 3,4 with strings playable on both sides 1,2 of the body. The guitar can be rotated by the player and played on either side, for example if the player requires strings of different tuning, different gauges, or if a string on one side of the guitar breaks. The guitar preferably incorporates a single pickup unit 11, which can pick up string vibrations on either side of the guitar. The pickup unit 11 may be adjustable to allow it to move through the guitar, from one side to the other. A headstock of the guitar cannot be angled back in the usual manner, so a tuning key arrangement and nut design may be incorporated that includes slanted slots in the bridge (4) to retain the strings in the correct position.

2. Side 2.
3. Fingerboard (side 1.) 4. Fingerboard (side 2.) 5. Bridge side 1 (pinned.) 6. Bridge side 2 (wrap around.) 7. Nut side 1 (The Nut is the small plastic device, which is at the headstock end, it retains the strings.) 8. Nut side 2.
9. Fret side 1.
10. Fret side 2.
11. Pickup, which has two surfaces adjustable so it can move through from side 1 to side 2.
12. Jack socket and strap button combined.
13. Volume control (works for both sides of the instrument.) 14. Rotary switch (for either or both sides.) 15. Tuning keys side 1.
16. Tuning keys side 2.
Sheet 2 1. Double sided pickup (travel through body.) 2. Pickup frame (holes for adjusting screws.) 3. Height adjusting screw.
4. Sections of wooden body.
The pickup has six pole pieces on each side.
Sheet 3 Depicting tuning key arrangement and nut design with slanting slots, to retain the strings in the correct position, as the headstock has no rake back as with a single sided guitar.
1. Tuning keys side 1.
2. Tuning keys side 2.
3. Headstock.
4. Nut with slanting slots.
