Abstract
The invention is based on the original Victorian pantry cool-boxes/early refrigerators which use the evaporation of water to noticeably cool the area within, and as such keep foodstuffs fresher for longer. However, these were constructed from bricks and mortar within the house, and used plaster of Paris to hold water. The present apparatus aims to improve on the original design by making it, portable, folding, compact and lightweight, enabling fold-flat storage/transportation. It also aims to achieve faster wicking and evaporation of water, so as to improve the cooling speed and temperature-drop, by using the very latest micro-fibre materials. The apparatus comprises a high wicking absorbent micro-fibre body and a waterproof water reservoir, where as the water evaporates it naturally cools the interior. The apparatus uses only a small amount of water to cool drinks, foodstuffs and for medical requirements, without the need for a power source of any description. The apparatus may be self-supporting or of a hanging design. Preferably, the apparatus can fold away into a pocket.
