Abstract

246,374. Stieler, M. June 8, 1925. Moulding chimneys in situ.-Internal shuttering for use in casting chimneys in situ is formed of metal plating 12 having vertical stiffeners 13 with offset ends 14, a connecting band 16 with drainage apertures 17 being provided to engage the offsets of superposed shutters to position them. The shutters are further retained in position by bands of wire 20 wrapped around the inside and supported by brackets 19 on the shutters and by ties 18 passing through the apertures 17 in the connecting band to the reinforcement positioned between the inner and outer shutters., The outer shuttering consists of plates 22 with vertical abutting joints covered by T-shaped bars 23 and a single overlapping joint 26 which can be tightened by a screw 30 to adjust the diameter of the outer shuttering to acquire the necessary taper to the chimney shaft. The outer shuttering is suspended on trolleys 40 adapted to be adjusted by screws 36 on rails 34 which are suspended from gantries or a crane so that the outer shuttering can be raised after one portion of the wall has set. The bolts which connect the plates to the stiffeners have their heads sunk in countersunk holes so that the cast surfaces are smooth.
