Abstract

A natural fiber based non-woven laminated with a waterproof barrier film to form a composite material, exclusively for use within a coffin/casket as a liner. The nonwoven will be composed of natural fibers, such as viscose, and a binding agent, laminated to a waterproof barrier film using conventional lamination techniques and a lamination adhesive. This lining material intended to reduce the amount of pollution created by conventional linings and additionally, the natural fiber nonwoven content of the composite will offer absorbent properties and have an ability to soak up body fluids. The non-woven may fall within the range of 4 to 30 grams per square metre, the film can be 10-60 microns thick.

Description

TITLE OF THE iNVENTION 1
A natural fibre based nonwoven laminated with a waterproof barrier film to form a composite material, exclusively for use within a coffinlcasket as a liner.
DESCRIPTION (Page 1 of 1)
Conventionally a coffin or casket is prepared for the receipt of a corpse by being lined throughout with a waterproof material such as plastic sheeting. This sheeting is stapled to the open top edge of the coffin and carefully draped down and shaped, using staples and pleats, to the interior of the coffin to give a neat appearance.
However the use of plastic sheeting does have negative implications regarding the toxic emissions generated from its combustion, during a conventional cremation process.
The object of the present invention is to provide a natural fibre based nonwoven laminated to a waterproof barrier film to form a composite material; exclusively for use within a coffin/casket as a liner.
The nonwoven will be composed of natural fibres and a binding agent which would then be laminated to a waterproof barrier film using conventional lamination techniques and a lamination adhesive. This composite sheet material would then be fitted within the coffin/casket in the same manner as described above.
This new composite material will offer enhanced environmental properties as the proportion of a plastic based raw material within the overall product is greatly reduced. Additionally, the natural fibre nonwoven content of the composite will offer absorbent properties and have an ability to soak up body fluids.
The Composite sheet material would be cut to size and fitted into the coffin/casket with the natural fibre nonwoven uppermost and the barrier film below. Additional benefits would be an enhanced tactile and aesthetic textile appearance.

Claims (9)

  1. CLAIMS 2 1. A natural fibre based nonwoven laminated to a waterproof barrier film to form a composite material, exclusively for use within a coffin/casket as a liner.
  2. 2. The composite according to claim 1, in that the fibres contained within the nonwoven material are made of viscose or other natural fibres.
  3. 3. The composite according to claim 1, in that the natural fibres of the nonwoven are combined with binding agents to form a nonwoven material.
  4. 4. The composite according to claim 1, in that the nonwoven material falls within the weight range of 30 grams to 80 grams per square metre.
  5. 5. The composite according to claim 1, in that the quantity of lamination adhesive falls within the weight range of 4 grams to 30 grams per square metre.
  6. 6. The composite according to claim 1, in that the quantity of waterproof barrier film falls within the range of 10 to 60 microns.
  7. 7. The composite according to claim 1, comprising 25% to 75% nonwoven material to include fibres and binding agent and 25% to 75% waterproof barrier film to include lamination adhesive.
  8. 8. The composite according to claim 1, in that the reduced toxic emissions when compared to plastic sheeting, would be reduced in the range of between 40% and 70%, due to the presence of natural fibres within the overall compositç, when combusted within a conventional cremation process.
  9. 9. The composite according to claim 1, in that the amount of absorbency per square metre to be in the range of 25c1 to 400c1, dependent on the liquid/fluid involved and the percentage of natural fibre within the composite. The composite according to claim 1, in that the barrier film within the composite will prevent liquids and fluids from passing through the composite.
