Abstract

A tape measure measuring device with the addition of two lasers a and b attached within or to the body of the tape measure set at an angle of 45 degrees so that the height of an object can be measured safely from the ground. In use laser b is shined at the top of the object allowing the height of the object to be determined mathematically. A prism may be added to the top laser allowing a straight line to be projected onto an object. The tape measure may comprise a spring retractable metal tape type measure but could also be a laser or cloth / plastic type hand cranked measure.

Description

Tape Measure This invention relates to a tape measure measuring device to measure heights with the use of lasers When measuring the height of an object it is often necessary to climb to the height of the object to get the required measurement.
This requires the use of more than one person when using ladders i.e. one person footing or stabilising the ladder whilst the other takes the measurement and repositioning the ladder for subsequent measurements.
Often some objects cannot be measured at all for safety reasons i.e. the top of a tree or electrical supply post This invention relates to a device being a tape measure with the addition of two battery powered lasers which enables the user to measure the height of an object from ground level without the need for ladders scaffolding or platforms.
This invention relates to a tape measure with the use of the two lasers set into the body of the tape measure at an angle of 45degrees.
To measure the height of an object the laser is switched on and the lights are projected onto the object being measured.
This invention relates to the use of a tape measure and lasers with the option of adding a prism to the top laser allowing a straight line to be projected onto an object The invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings 1/2 Top of tree cannot be safely measured and neither can the electrical pole.
In Figure 1 The person measuring needs to climb into the tree and into the uppermost branches which are thin and liable to break resulting in a possible fall In Figure 2 The person will be in close proximity to high powered cables with the danger of shock and possibly death In Figures 3 and 4 With Laser a, (dotted Line) projected onto the base of the object the tape is extended until Laser Ii (dotted line) is itself projected onto the object at the height to be measured.
The height of the object (A) to be measured is the same as the distance (B) measured by the tape from the base of the object. Thus the need to climb into the small branches or to put oneself in the proximity of the power cables is avoided. When measuring several objects at once the need to reposition ladders etc. is also avoided p 3 2/2 This drawing shows the tape measure with the two lasers a and Ii positioned at the front of the housing the switch and the battery compartment are shown at the rear in this example but could be positioned elsewhere.
The drawing shows an extendible spring retractable metal type tape measure but this could also be a laser or cloth / plastic type hand cranked measure.
