Abstract

A foldable portable pillow support comprises two adjustable and foldable wedges which are each made separately and then joined in the middle. A pillow is then placed over the support to provide an ideal pillow height. Each wedge may be made from a single blankabcdeedcbawhich is folded and secured by hook and loop fastening to form the wedges. The height of the wedges may be varied by varying the width of the wedge basebddb. Each wedge may be constructed from separate panelsedde, dccd, bccb, abba, which are joined or hinged together by being wire bound or spirally bound. The two wedges may be joined in the middle by hook and loop fastening. The wedge may be made from plastic or metal so that it may be washable.

Background:
In order to have a good night sleep without unnecessary stress to the neck and spine, a good number of designs on pillow or pillow system have been merged to have a pillow or pillow system with a pillow height, which is the distance of a sleeper's head above the mattress when sleeping on a pillow or a pillow system, relatively low at the middle to accommodate one sleeping face-up and relatively high at both sides of a pillow or a pillow system to accommodate one sleeping over his or her side.
An ideal pillow height, which is the pillow height providing an ideal support to a sleeper's head with unnecessary stress to the neck and spine reduced, at the middle of a pillow or a pillow system depends upon the bedding condition such as pillow thickness, firmness and mattress firmness. Meanwhile an ideal pillow height at the sides of a pillow or a pillow system, apart from the bedding condition, also depends upon a sleeper's physique such as his or her shoulder width and head width when sleeping over his or her side.
It is easy to find a pillow having either an ideal pillow height at the middle or at the sides readily available from a shop, but not a pillow having an ideal pillow height at the middle as well as at the sides. Though a pillow system providing an ideal pillow height at the middle as well as at the sides can be obtained by specially tailor-made to suit a particular bedding condition and a particular person however it is expensive and yet not flexible enough to accommodate the fact that the pillow and mattress firmness is likely to change when time goes by or sleeping on a foreign bed. To overcome these problems, our Pillow Rest is invented to provide an ideal pillow height thus an ideal support to a sleeper's head with unnecessary stress to the neck and spine reduced regardless of the bedding condition and sleeper's physique
Statement of invention:
The proposed invention (the " Pillow Rest") provides a means to obtain an ideal pillow height to give a best support to a sleeper's head with unnecessary stress to the neck and spine reduced regardless of the bedding condition and sleeper's physique
Detailed description:
The "Pillow Rest" (which, from now on, shall be referred to as The Invention"), when used with a pillow on top of it, provides the means to adjust the pillow height to the ideal height at both sides of a pillow, regardless of the pillow's thickness and firmness and a sleeper's physique. This gives the best support to a sleeper's head thus reduces the unnecessary stress to the neck and spine, resulting in a good night sleep either with face up or over the sides The Invention consists of two collapsible wedges with an extended base at one side. Both wedges I and 2 are symmetrically identical in size and shape as shown in Figure 1. Each wedge is constructed firstly by folding up a flat sheet or board of light yet sturdy material along the lines bb, cc and dd into 4 panels. They are a wedge lip panel aabb, a wedge face panel bbcc, a wedge side panel ccdd and an extended wedge base panel ddee which consists of a wedge base ddbb and a wedge extension bbee. Secondly the wedge lip panel aabb is to be secured onto the extended wedge base panel ddee with a pair of fold-back clips ( or by other means such as Velcro etc.).
The two wedges I and 2 then are joined together by means of a pair of fold-back clips (or by other means such as Velcro etc.).
The width of a wedge base --the distance between bb and dd --determines the height of the wedge, H. Thus, the ideal pillow height at the side of a pillow on top of the invention can be easily obtained by varying the width of the wedge base --the distance between bb and dd --, as shown in Figure 2.
The space in each wedge can be used for housing a MP3 player or a radio or an other similar musical unit to provide a soothing, relaxing environment. The space can also be used for housing a sachet of aroma material to provide an aromatherapy atmosphere Advantages: I. Simple design, low production cost 2. It is collapsible, foldable, portable and of lightweight thus is ideal for travel 3. The ideal pillow height at the sides can be adjusted with ease 4. Familiarity -makes you feel comfortable even sleeping in a foreign bed 5. Sleep environment can be enhanced with a MP3 or a radio or an other similar musical unit and aromatherapy material 6. Accommodates for all size of sleeper-large or small 7. Can be used for any bedding condition 8. Very simple and easy to assemble and disassemble.
