Abstract
The learning apparatus comprises an array of pockets that are intended to contain letters, pictures and numbers provided on cards (8, Fig. 2). Individual columns of the array may be folded so that only the top card is visible and the column may then be unfolded to reveal a word associated with that card. The letters may be revealed one by one to improve spelling and reading. Alternatively the columns may contain consecutive numbers for teaching counting or consecutive letters of the alphabet. The apparatus can also be used within the substance misuse field as an informative learning aide for problematic substance misusers (Fig. 2). A handle 9 is provided for holding the apparatus, hanging it on a wall or hanging it around a person's neck.
Description
Detailed description
My invention is called an Acron and is basically a tool to aide learning at the moment I am qualified drug worker, initially Acron will be used to impact the drugs field and equip drug workers enabling them to engage problematic substance misusers and to keep their attention but will also be used as a learning aide in schools and nurseries but can also be used within businesses, colleges and universities. Acron is basically a portable acronym, hidden behind each letter is a word, the drug worker would then involve the substance misusers by asking the relevant questions (which would be supplied) for the individual to tiy and guess, whether the individual guesses the right answers or not is irrelevant because it is the participation that counts and the holistic atmosphere created which will enable the individual to open up, trust and begin to address their substance misuse issues.
Figure 1 Hidden behind reference 1-6 are words connected to crack cocaine, the hidden words begin with the letters that are showing, all the letters are on cards (reference 8 figure 2) which are then placed in PVC pouches to form a word and are then folded up and fastened at the top with Velcro or snap on fasteners hidden away waiting to be revealed at the appropriate time.
Figure 2 Once the word is ready to be revealed the individual would be asked a question in order to reveal the missing word (a list of the questions are under the title my questions) the individual can have as many guesses as they would like if they guess right you just pull away (reference 3 figure 2) and let the word fall (reference 1/2) and the word is then revealed once the word is revealed the drug worker would then discuss the issues relating to that word using the necessary provisions at hand to implement the necessary treatment.
Figure 3 Eventually the words will fall flat and can be read diagonally everything is made from soft PVC (but can be made in other materials) fastened at the top with Velcro or snap
I
on fasteners. Reference 9 is a handle to hold up the Acron or to hang it on a wall; the handle can also be extended in order to hang the Acron (figure 4 reference 9) around your neck. Reference 10 is the main body to hold the word e.g. CRACK this will eventually hold up to seven letters maximum. The Acron will be reversible so you will be able to insert letters on either side.
Figure 4 The Acron can also be used in schools and nurseries to aide learning, a picture will be placed in reference 10 instead of letters and the children would then be encouraged by the teacher to guess what the picture is, once they have guessed correctly then the word can be revealed the teacher can then go through each letters of the word with the children improving their spelling and reading. There is no set ways to use the Acron the teacher can use their own style and method to maximise the results.
Figure 5 The Acron can be used to aide learning the alphabet each row of letters being revealed a row at a time and the children will be encouraged to guess what letters will fall from the next row the letters can be exchanged for numbers and aide children on how to count.
My Questions In order for the Acron to work efficiently the appropriate questions would need to be asked. In fIgure 2, two words are revealed the question for the first word would sound like this. 1) What C soon develops alter using crack cocaine? Answer: Crave. 2) What R can happen when you are trying to stop using crack cocaine? Answer: Relapse. There will initially be three substances to start with Crack cocaine, heroin and alcohol.
