Abstract

A solo sleeping trailer with an anthropomorphic and aerodynamic shaped body 1. A metal plate 2 is secured to the front end of the body 1 to facilitate various towing attachments which enable the towing of the trailer by a man, a bicycle, a motor cycle, a motor vehicle, a boat or a snow mobile vehicle. A waterproof access hatch 5 is provided which also acts as a ventilator. A pair of detachable wheels 4 on a single axle are situated amidships. An all around impact fender 3 is provided. To enable the towing of like trailers a rear end " U " bolt is fitted. The invention which is in effect a mini caravan alleviates the need for a separate rucksack, sleeping bag and tent.

Description

--1 --
A SOLO SLEEPING TRAILER
This invention relates to a trailer of approximate human shape for sleeping in when stationary or carrying a load when underway. Various towing attachments allow it to be hauled by either a man, a bicycle, a motorbike, a motor vehicle, a boat or a snowmobile vehicle.
The tent, the sleeping bag and the rucksack are the established essential items for a man to survive in the outdoors environment, providing the necessary protection against the elements. Even so there are physical limitations to a mans carrying capacity which reduce, logistically, his duration and durability relative to any given environment. By merging all of these items into one, in an anthropomorphic and aerodynamic wheeled trailer, a mans payload capacity is multiplied and his endurance in the field also. This applies to a man irrespective whether he be on foot, on a bicycle or on a motorbike.
According to the present invention there is provided an amphibious, anthropomorphic and aerodynamic integral plastic or metal waterproof trailer.
A hatch cover atop the trailer body permits access, provides a waterproof seal and acts also as a ventilator. A pair of wheels are attached amidships in the perfect position to balance the payload. A fender encompasses the whole body for impact protection. A rigid metal plate is secured to the front end of the body which is utiised for attaching various towing brackets. Means for towing other like trailers are provided on the rear of the body. A selection of towing brackets are provided for attaching the body of the trailer to:-a man, a bicycle, a motorbike, a motor vehicle, another like trailer, a boat or a snowmobile vehicle.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:-Figure 1 Shows the trailer in side view with no towing brackets attached.
Figure 2 Shows the trailer in plan view with no towing brackets attached.
Figure 3 Shows the front view of the trailer.
Figure 4 Shows the rear view of the trailer.
Figure 5 illustrates the towing of one trailer by another connected with an Appropriate bracket.
Figure 6 illustrates the trailer being towed by a bicycle attached by an Articulating bracket.
Figure 7 Illustrates the trailer being towed by a motor vehicle.
Figure 8 Demonstrates an optional waist belt means of attaching a man to the trailer.
Figure 9 Shows the belt attachment in front view.
Figure 10 Shows the belt in side view.
Figure 11 Shows the belt in plan view.
Figure 12 Shows a skis attachment in plan view.
Figure 13 Shows a skis attachment in side view.
Figure 14 Shows a skis attachment in rear view.
Referring to the drawings, the trailer comprises an integral body 1 illustrated in Fig I which can be made of moulded plastic, glass re-enforced plastic or metal.
It is anthropomorphic and aerodynamic in shape to provide a protected and waterproof solo sleeping compartment. A rigid sleeping bag as it were. An entry hatch aperture is built into the top of the body 1 and a close fitting hatch cover 5 is provided with a waterproof seal, not shown. The hatch cover 5 can also be used as a ventilator by incrementally tightening or releasing the securing catches, not shown. In order to spread the stress load of towing the trailer a metal plate 2 is secured at the front of the body 1 onto which can be attached various towing brackets with bolts through the holes provided in said metal plate 2. An impact fender 3 made of rubber or other suitable friction absorbent material is affixed around the whole body 1 by means of bolts or other suitable means of attachment. A suitable attachment point is provided on the underside of the body 1 for securing the detachable wheels 4 on their axle 6 by means of saddle brackets 7 or another suitable alternative. Another rear end attachment point on the body 1 is provided either for a "U" bolt 8 or some other suitable type of bracket, so that the trailer itself can be utiised to tow other like trailers, see Fig 5, connected by a suitable bracket 9.
Various towing brackets are provided which are adapted for a bicycle 10, Fig 6, including a horizontally articulating joint 12 on the bracket 11, secured to the metal plate 2. When being towed by a motor vehicle 13, Fig 7, equipped with a towing ball hitch 14, then the suitable towing bracket 15 is provided.
An adapted towing bracket, not shown, is also provided for a motorbike.
When being towed by a man, the trailer can be attached by a lightweight metal or plastic tubular 16 connected to a leather or plastic belt 17 fastened around a mans waist by a buckle 19, see Fig 8. The bracket joint 18 articulates horizontally and is locked onto the belt 17 by means of a pin 21. The other end of this towing bracket 16 has a securing plate 20 for the purpose of bolting to the metal plate 2 of the body 1. An alternative harness attached to both shoulders and waist, not shown, could also be provided.
A pair of lightweight skis, 22 & 23, Figs 12, 13 & 14 can be secured to the axle 6 through the holes provided 24 which allows the skis 22 & 23 to articulate around the axle 6 as the terrain demands over snow and ice. The Skis are made of metal plate 22 fabricated to metal tube 23, or suitable plastic alternatives. Thus the trailer can be towed by a snowmobile vehicle with a connecting bracket, not shown.
