Abstract
The apparatus comprises a nasogastric tube 201, a securing device 202 and a protecting device 204. The securing device and the protecting device are configurable between a first configuration in which it is small enough to pass through the nasal cavity 102 and a second configuration in which the securing device functions to prevent the removal of the nasogastric tube from the stomach 104 and the protecting device inhibits gastric contents passing through the oesophagus 103. Both devices may be inflated with a fluid in the second configuration. The protecting device may be umbrella-shaped and comprise one-way valves (610, figure 6) to allow saliva to pass through the device to the stomach. The tube may have a narrower upper portion 208 and have up to three concentric tubes.
