THE BREAST FEEDING AID
The breast feeding aid is an extra measure of support when a mother is breast feeding her baby in a seated position. Where most mothers have problems with their back, neck, shoulders or if they have had a caesarean section or if they are paralysed and use a wheelchair the mothers have a hard job of feeding their child, this sort of trouble leads to going to the doctors or gethng stressed where the baby can sense this and will not feed well, and when a mother has a caesarean section it is painful to hold their baby and therefore need assistance from the midwives who also are too busy themselves. Due to theses problems a mother makes a decision to stop breast feeding and to use formula instead. The device therefore solves the problems of aches and pains in the arms, neck, shoulders, back and stomach. And invites a healthy start for mother and baby by using the best milk, and to be able to be close to the baby without the mother or baby getting stressed.
The device is made in three ways to enable the mother to feed their baby, if the mother is a wheelchair user, you simply lock it into the original wheelchair arm Jocks, or if the mother has had an operation and needs a helping hand in the hospital, where the midwives would assist them in placing the breast feeding aid over them whilst in the hospital bed. And the last position is to be sat at home in an arm chair or sofa, then placing the device over her lap and down the side/s of the arm chair or sofa.
A baby can be heavy when holding for a period of time, the device holds the baby in the centre top, placing babies head in the cushion to the left or right depending on which breast mother intends on feeding baby with, then once the mother is comfortable place the device over her lap with baby in it, then she is ready to feed her baby without having to hold anything (baby or device).
The device would be made primarily from stretchy washable removable and replaceable fabric with plastic, metal, foam, and Velcro components. It has a tilted frame to the top of the device with adjustable, folding legs situated to the left and right side of the aid. The top of the device shall end up over the mothers lap with the bar/pole closest to the mothers chest bent inward slightly to give comfort and shape, and adjusted such that the baby could be placed on the top of the device and into one of the cushions where he/she would easily be able to reach the mothers breast. The top of the device would need to be tilted in order to tilt baby towards the mothers breast. Before sitting to feed the baby the device would be adjusted to fit to the mothers preference and situation.
An example of the invention/s will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: -Figure 1 shows the device for the home user -Figure 2 shows the device for the wheelchair user -Figure 3 shows the device for the hospital user Figure 1 has four top poles of which two are adjustable 1&6 having one of these bent slightly inwards, and to adjust to the width of the device, where the other two poles to the sides are not adjustable but able to give a tilt to the frame, these po!es are then covered in a removable, washable material 2 also adjustable to fit the width of the frame, leading to Velcro 4 which is attached to the top of the material 2, the loose piece of Velcro 3 can be attached to a separate coordinating piece of material to cover the Velcro 4 on the main material 2. Also attached to the main material is a safety belt 5, made of fabricNelcro/metal pieces. To the top are two cushions made from foam 7 which are covered in coordinated material also to be removable and washable and to have Velcro attached to the base of each cushion in order for it to fix in one place. Adjoining the top poles 1, are the leg poles 9 to which four folding mechanisms are placed at the top of each leg 8 within the poles, and to each leg are four adjustments 10 for flexible movement, to the base of each leg are four grips 11. To add extra safety to applying the device to a cushion which only has one accessible gap to the side, a pad 12 which would clip on 13 to the base of one leg, either left or right side to make the device more stable when placed on top of the arm chair/sofa cushion.
Figure 2 has four top poles of which two are adjustable I &6 having one of these bent slightly inwards, and to adjust to the width of the device, where the other two poles to the sides are not adjustable but able to give a tilt to the frame, these poles are then covered in a removable, washable material 2 also adjustable to fit the width of the frame, leading to Velcro 4 which is attached to the top of the material 2, the loose piece of Velcro 3 can be attached to a separate coordinating piece of material to cover the Velcro 4 on the main material 2. Also attached to the main material is an safety belt 5, made of fabricNelcro/metal pieces. To the top are two smaller cushions (than in fig 1) made from foam 7 which are covered in coordinated material also to be removable and washable and to have Velcro attached to the base of each cushion in order for it to fix in one place.
Adjoining the top poles 1, are the leg poles 9 to which four folding mechanisms are placed at the top of each leg 8 within the poles, and to each leg are four adjustments 10 for flexible movement, to the base of each leg are four holes 11 to allow the device to lock into the wheelchair where the arms are usually placed.
Figure 3 has four top poles of which two are adjustable 1&6 having one of these bent slightly inwards, and to adjust to the width of the device, where the other two poles to the sides are not adjustable but able to give a tilt to the frame, these pole are then covered in a removable, washable material 2 also adjustable to fit the width of the frame, leading to Velcro 4 which is attached to the top of the material 2, the loose piece of Velcro 3 can be attached to a separate coordinating piece of material to cover the Velcro 4 on the main material 2. Also attached to the main material is an safety belt 5, made of fabricNelcro/metal pieces. To the top are two cushions made from foam 7 which are covered in coordinated material also to be removable and washable and to have Velcro attached to the base of each cushion in order for it to fix in one place. Adjoining the top poles 1, are the leg poles 9 to which four folding mechanisms are placed at the top of each leg 8 within the poles, and to each leg are four adjustments 10 for flexible movement, to the base of each leg are two large strong flaps 11 which are to be placed underneath the hospital bed.
All of the removable products (top cover 2, Velcro strips 3, cushion covers 7, replacement pad for figi, I 2/13) accompanying the aid are to be replaceable separately.
