Abstract

The wall structure comprises a bridge element located between an outer masonry load-bearing and waterproof laver which supports a bridge element that in turn supports an inner lining. The bridge element also supports insulation so as to leave a void between the masonry layer and the insulation and also between the inner layer and the insulation, said latter void being intended as a service void. The bridge element may comprise an elongate I section, within which insulation is located in use, with an additional T section extending from each end, in section. Alternatively, the I section may be formed as a J section to facilitate the incorporation of insulating boards. The inner T section may alternatively be formed as a box section, and preferably includes holes or slots through which cables, pipes etc. can be passed.

Description

Improvements to insulation. airtighness and service provision in masonary walls Patent GB 2345071 discloses a wall system consisting of an outer masonary skin supporting an inner bridge mechanism holding insulation and inner lining.
Patent GB 2401884 discloses an improvement of that wall system by incorporating a deflecting/draining cavity space between the outer masonary skin and insulation.
The improvements herein envisaged are to improve the airtightness of the above systems and to provide an inner service void.
A preferred embodiment is herein described and illustrated and referenced on drawings Nos 1,2 & 3I4 A bridge mechanism as substantially described in patent No GB 2401884 has an additional T inner extension, 1 or seperate screw on box section 2 creating a service void between the insulation 3 and the inner lining 4. The T section and the box section has holes or slots 8 allowing services, electricity cables, heating pipes etc to pass freely between service voids.
Airtightness will be improved by taping the insulation to the inner flange of the bridge mechanism 5 or a continous vapour and airtight barrier 6 held in place by box section 2.
The foregoing describes a bridge mechanism that is a combination of I,T and box sections. It is also, envisaged that the bridge section may be of a J section as illustrated on drawing No 4. This section may facilitate the insertion of rigid insulation boards. Furthermore the continuos outer T section 7 which is adhesively dabb fixed to the outer masonry skin may be substituted by vertically intermittent hollow rectangular pads 9. These pads would have outwardly and downwardly sloping tops and bottoms to deflect any moisture in the cavity space away from the insulation. These intermittent hollow pads on both the I & T section bridge and the J section bridge may have the advantage of reducing cold bridging. d

Claims (3)

  1. Claims 1. A wall structure comprising an outer masonary loadbearing and weatherproof skin, supporting a bridge member that provides a dring cavity space between the outer wall, and insulation, holds that insulation, provides a service void behind the inner lining, and supports the inner lining.
  2. 2. A wall structure wherein the bridge member maybe a J section beyond the I section cavity space which would facilitate the insertion and fitting of rigid insulation boards.
  3. 3. A well structure as claimed in claim 1 and substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
