Abstract

A keyhole draught excluder 1 comprising a cover member 2 to cover over a keyhole, and a projection 3 protruding from the cover member 2 for insertion into a keyhole `X' and supports the cover member 2 over the keyhole. The cover may be a keyhole shaped plate provided with a finger grip 6 for removal. The cover may be metallic and the door abutting surface of the cover plate may include draught excluding material 5. The keyhole engaging protrusion 4 ideally is formed of flexible and resilient material in the shape of rectangle with laterally extending ribs 4C, 4D.

Description

Title: Keyhole Draught Excluder The present invention relates to a keyhole draught excluder.
Many external doors have a keyhole, without a cover or "escutcheon" plate, leading from the inside to the outside of a building. Cold air from outside a building can pass through the keyhole causing a cold draught inside the building.
The invention seeks to provide a solution to this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided a keyhole draught excluder comprising a cover member to cover over keyhole and a projection extending from the cover member to engage in a keyhole and so support the cover member over a keyhole.
Preferably the cover member is in the form of a plate. The plate may be metallic or of a metallic colour. The plate may be generally keyhole shaped, e.g. like an escutcheon plate.
Preferably the projection is formed of flexible and/or resilient material. The projection preferably extends from within the perimeter of the cover member so it is not visible when the cover member abuts against the keyhole.
The projection may be an elongate rectangular structure to span the length of a keyhole, with ribs extending laterally from the rectangular structure.
Preferably draught excluding material is provided on the cover member around the projection.
Preferably a finger grip is provided on the cover member to facilii.ate withdrawal of the draught excluder from a keyhole.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective from the front of the cover member, and Figure 2 shows a perspective from the rear of the cover member.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a keyhole draught excluder 1.
Excluder 1 comprises a cover member in the form of a metal or metal coloured plate 2 to cover over keyhole "X" on a door. Plate 2 is generally keyhole shaped, e.g. like an escutcheon plate.
A projection 3 extends from the plate to engage in a keyhole and so support the plate over a keyhole. Projection 3 extends from within the perimeter of the plate (i.e. so the plate extends laterally beyond the projection) so the projection 3 is not visible when the cover member abuts against the keyhole. Projection 3 is formed of flexible and/or resilient material such as rubber.
The projection 3 is an elongate rectangular structure 4 to span the length of a keyhole, with ribs 4A,4B,4C,4D extending laterally from the rectangular structure. When projection 3 is inserted into a keyhole, the ribs 4A,4B,4C,4D flex to accommodate the shape of the keyhole and the projection 3 forms a friction fit in the keyhole.
Draught excluding material 5, such as foam or flexible rubber is provided on the cover member around the projection.
A finger grip 6 is provided on the cover member to facilitate withdrawal of the draught excluder from a keyhole.
In use, the projection is inserted into a keyhole so that the plate 2 abuts against the keyhole on a door so compressing the draught excluding material 5. This prevents draughts from passing through the keyhole. If it is subsequently required to lock the door, the excluder I can be removed by pulling the projection out of the keyhole using finger grip 6. If desired, the projection 3 aridlor its ribs may be trimmed to size, e.g. using a sharp knife.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
