Abstract
A riot shield (A) has curved edges (3, 4) which are adapted to interlock with at least one adjacent riot shield (B, C) to produce a "wall" of riot shields.
Description
DISCRIPTION.
(1) 2457757 The present invention relates to riot shields and in particular but not exclusively so to riot shield which can be used in combination with a plurality of other riot shields.
An important item of equipment in the police armory is the riot shield which can be used alone or interlinked so as to form a solid wall of protection. The purpose of the present invention is to not only provide the aforementioned solid wall of interlinking shields but to also have a means by which the need to have all officers in attendance without compromising the strength of the wall. This important factor would enable the said officer freedom to act outside of the confines of the structure, e.g. to make an arrest of a rioter.
A first embodiment of the intention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings and by example only in which-Fig 1 shows the invention with numbers and letters pertaining to its parts and with the indication of movement direction shown by arrowhead mode.
Fig 2 shows the invention in interlocking mode as if held by three operators (not shown) Fig 3 shows the invention in a "Stand Free" situation, i.e. without the presence of an operator Fig 4 shows the invention in interlinking mode with four operators incorporating the roof shield.
Fig 5 Is a side view showing shield (A) and shield (D) held in situ by "Holding area" (HA) In operation the invention could operate in a riot situation in the following manner.
The shield (A) is held firm by the armsleeve (1) and the hand grip (2) with the top of scroll (3) and the top of scroll (4) being capped to help stabilize shield (A) and shield (D) with the outside scroll (3) and the inside scroll (4) situated as shown in Fig (1) The outside scroll and the inside scroll of shield (A) are now entwined Fig (2) and because the force (G), as shown in figs (1), (2), (4), acting with the inside scrolls and outside scrolls of shields (B) and (C) because the forces acting on the shield (A) is two sided the shield can now be left in the "stand alone" position Fig (3) In a second embodiment the roof shield (D) shown enlarged in Fig(4) is now added to the ensemble by a fourth operator (not shown) causing the engagement of this shield by the "holding area" (HA) with shield (A) and the outside and inside scrolls with the adjacent roof shields (E) and(F) as shown Fig (4) z
