Abstract

A stackable watering can comprises a body 1, an attachable lid 3, a pivoting handle 2 and a rose sprinkler 4, which when in stacking mode allow a plurality of tapered watering cans to nest and stack inside each other. The lid 3 may be integral with the can or may be a detachable piece. The handle 2 may comprise a front part and a rear part. The front part may be pivotably attached to the top of the can and the rear part of the handle may run along a groove 7 in the rear and base of the can. The groove 7 may run from the underside of the can to almost the top of the can. The front and rear parts of the handle may be connected together. In order for the cans to be stackable, the lid 3 has to be removed and the handle pivoted downwards so that the top of the can is completely open. The shape of the can also allows rainwater to be channeled into the can due to the larger open surface area.

Description

1 2457595 Stackable watering can Th invention relates to a stackable watering can.
Watering cans are commonly used in gardens and a smalier version used in the house for watering plants etc. Filled from a tap, hose or rainwater butt and they can be used with a rose spnnkler head or without.
However, they are cumbersome hollow items, which are bulky, and therefore costly for the manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer to transport, store and display. There are some, jug like, smaller tapered indoor watering cans, which can stack and nest inside each other, but they do not have a handle above and they pour rather than sprinkle because they do not have a lid or a rose. Larger garden watering cans require a partially covered top to retain the water when pouring which allows a pressure to build up to project the water further through the spout and rose to reach the desired area. They also have a handle arrangement above the body and therefore it is not possible to stack and nest inside each other.
To overcome these problems the present invention proposes a stackable watering can which has a separate attachable top cover, and a pivoting handle, which folds out of the way which enables the tapered watering cans to be stacked and nest inside each other.
The separate attachable top le dipped inside, or to the underside, of the can spout when stacked and the rose is dipped and stored inside the can.
The front part of the handle is an inverted LI shape and is pivotally attached to the body with pins on opposite sides of the watering can. The rear part of the handle is attached to the front part of the handle with the rear end locating, and dipping, when up, into a channel in the body. The channel which allows the handle to pivot away runs down the rear and underneath the watering can.
When in use the watering can handle is pivoted up and dipped in the up position and the lid is dipped on to the top of watering can. The rose can be fitted if desired. Holding the can with one or two hands the handle design allows the easy tipping of the full can to dispense the water through the spout with or without the rose fitted. There is provided a recessed finger tipping grip on the rear underside of the watering can.
Existing watering cans are not designed to, and do not, catch a large amount of falling rain when left out in the rain. This invention has been designed with an angled body, with the spout higher than the rear, when standing on a flat surface. A kerb detail on the edge of the top, arid a large opening, allow falling rain to run into the watering can over the whole area of the can footprint. It is appreciated that the watering can can be of various shapes and sums of the suitable construction.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the ampanyiflg drawings in which:-Figure 1 shows in perspective a stackable watering can with the top attached, the handle in the upright carrying position and the rose sprinkler inserted. / 2.
Figure 2 shows in perspective a rear view of a stackable watering can with the handle in the half way up position, the attachable top detached and the rose sprinkler detached.
Figure 3 shows in perspective an underside view of a stackable watering can showing the channel and with the handle in the upright position.
Figure 4 shows in perspective a stackable watering can with the top in the stacking mode attached to the underside of the can front and the handle folded down.
Figure 5 shows in perspective a rear view of a stackable watering can with the handle folded down and top stored inside the body in the stacking mode.
Figure 6 shows a section through the side elevation showing the handle in the down position in the tunnel in the body.
Astackable watenng can, seshown in the figure 1, hasatapenng body I with the handle 2 in the upright carrying poetion, ccnnected by pins 6, the top 3 is dipped on to the body I which hse kerbs 5 to channel the falling rain into the body I, the rose 4 attached.
Figure 2 shows a rear view of a stackable watering can with the handle 2 in the half way up position pivoting on pins 6, the attachable top 3 detached and the rose sprinkler 4 detached.
An underside view, as shown in figure 3, of a stackable watering can shows the channel 7 in the body I with the finger tipping grip 9 and with the handle 2 in the upright position and dipped into the handle catch 8. Figure 4 shows a stackable watering can with the top 3 in the stacking mode attached to the underside of the body I and the handle 2 folded down on the pins 6.
Figure 5 shows a rear view of a stackable watering can with the handle 2 folded down and the top 3 stored inside the body I in the stacking mode.
Figure 6 shows a section through the side elevation of the body I showing the handle 3 in the down position in the channel 7 in the body I.
