Abstract

A dual spring suspension system which provides support for a bedstead frame G, a bed base H, and mattress I. The suspension system comprises a plurality of dual spring units positioned at strategic locations around the bedstead frame G and are attached to the frame by means of bolt and nut dowels B and a series of washers C which hold the spring units firmly in place. Each of the dual spring units comprises an inner spring D which is the main point load-bearing spring and an outer spring E which is a larger partial load-bearing spring. The spring units are positioned between the bedstead base H and the feet/legs of the bedstead F where they generate a slight multi-directional movement to the whole frame G, base H and mattress I.

Bedstead Suspension System.
Most contemporary bed designs fall broadly into two types, one being the multi-sprung divan and the other being the platform' type with a sprung mattress on the top. Both of these systems arguably restrict the opportunity for further creative design ideas, other than slight variations on a well worn' theme.
The present invention offers an alternative springing system and refers to a dual spring configuration (fig.!) that is intended to support and suspend a bedstead frame (A) on which is placed a wooded or slatted base with a mattress on top.
The dual spring units are fixed at strategic locations around the bedstead frame and are attached by means of bolt and nut dowels (B) and a series of washers (C) all of which hold the springs firmly in place.
The mechanism comprises of two springs, an inner (D) which is the main point load bearing spring and an outer (E) which is a larger partial load bearing spring. When the springs are in place and fixed to the frame to floor' supports ie. the feet (F) they generate a slight multi directional movement to the whole frame, base and mattress which is unlike the springing motion that most other beds provide, while at the same time giving excellent support and stability to the occupant.
This configuration negates the need for the bed feet, or supports and the bed itself to be part of an integral or block' design, thus opening up the opportunity to create many variations of individual design ideas.
