Abstract

A dummy holder comprises a patch of hook and loop fastener which can be attached to the bars of a crib. A dummy has the complementary portion of hook and loop fastener attached to the dummy. The dummy can therefore be located on the dummy holder to enable easy location of the dummy. The dummy holder may have a securing strip of hook and loop fastener or a clip to hold it to the bars of the crib. The holder may be made in a variety of colours and decorations and be child friendly. The hook and loop fastening of the dummy holder may be incorporated into a face patter, eg a fluffy nose of a teddy bear. The holder may be used in or incorporated into a pram or car seat and may hold more than one dummy. The holder may be used to attach objects other than dummies.

Description

Dummy (pacifier/ soother) holding patch and adapted dummy.
Description
Background
Many parents use a dummy (pacifier! soother) to soothe and comfort small children. When a child becomes dependent on a dummy it often has difficulty sleeping without it. This creates a problem when, as the child sleeps the dummy becomes dislodged and entangled in the bedclothes or falls to the floor.
This often results in the child waking and becoming distressed.
The parent is then also woken to locate the dummy and give it back to the child. This causes broken nights sleep for the parent and child.
If on waking and fmding the dummy missing the child could easily find, grasp and remove from its holding patch another dummy hopefully all could achieve a good nights sleep.
There are various devices used to secure dummies to clothing but none are satisfactoiy or suitable for use in the cot. Previous ideas involving hooks and clips have not been satisfactory and provided potential problems with safety.
This invention relates to a holding patch for retaining a child's specially adapted dummy. This would primarily be used in the cot environment but could be employed elsewhere.
It is positioned attached to the bars of the cot to allow easy accessibility for the child.
The holding patch is made of a central area of VELCROTM. An outer ring of fabric surrounds this. See figure 1.This fabric could
I
be made into various child-friendly shapes and decorated with child-friendly patterns or characters.
This holding patch is secured to the bars of the cot by a strap threaded through the back of the patch and secured around the bar using VELCROTM. This strap or straps are adjustable and can be made to fit vertical or horizontal bars of varying shapes and sizes. See figure 2 and 3.
The dummy itself has a small patch of VELCROTh on the rear surface. See figures 4 and 5. This allows the dummy to be easily attached and removed from the holding patch. See figure 6.
The VELCROTM portion of the dummy could be incorporated into a face pattern on the dummy and provide touch sensory input for the child i.e. as the flurry nose of a teddy bear's face.
Advantages * The dummy is held in a convenient position where a child can easily take it whenever it wants without parental involvement.
* The dummy is stored in a neat and clean place. Not wrapped in the bedclothes or on the floor.
* The patch is easily fitted and removed from cot bars of various sizes.
* The patch is mobile. It is small and light.
* The patch is machine washable.
* The patch can be visually stimulating and provide sensory input for touch.
* The patch would be soft and non-toxic and safe for use with small children.
