Abstract
A tool for chamfering plastic soil pipes comprises a main body section 1 provided with an abrasive area 2 mounted on a tapered surface 3 of the main body 1. The outer diameter of the tapered surface 3 is greater than that of the pipe to be chamfered, thereby allowing for variation in pipe diameter. The abrasive is carbide grit which has been brazed onto the tapered surface 3 which is steel. The abrasive occupies 20-50 % of the tapered surface 3. The tool can be fitted to a drive mechanism by means of a thread 4 or a taper.

Field of the invention
This invention provides a method of chamfering plastic soil pipes for use in push fittings to help prevent the seal in the fitting being damaged during assembly.
Background of the invention
When using plastic waste pipes in conjunction with push fittings' it is helpful to chamfer the outside edge of the pipe so that the seal in the fitting is not damaged during assembly. Current methods of achieving this may be to use an angle grinder to chamfer the pipe or a file, both of these methods are awkward and may easily lead to personal injury. Other similar tools are available but due to the cutting being done by a sharp tip the process is aggressive and when the pipe is being held by hand an aggressive power tool can be dangerous.
Object of the invention The object of this invention is to produce a non-aggressive device to be used in a power drill that can be used to chamfer plastic waste pipes to be used with push fittings' to help prevent the seal in the fitting being damaged during assembly.
Summary of the invention
The invention is a solution to chamfering plastic soil pipes comprising of: i) A main body section (1) ii) With an abrasive surface (2) mounted on a tapered shoulder (3) iii) And a method of connecting a multiple drive adaptors (4) to suit various power tool drive mechanisms Advantages of the invention When using plastic soil pipes in conjunction with push fittings' it is helpful to chamfer the outside edge of the pipe so that the seal in the fitting is not damaged during assembly. Current methods of achieving this may be to use an angle grinder to chamfer the pipe or a file, both of these methods are awkward and may easily lead to personal injury. Other similar tools are available but due to the cutting being done by a sharp tip the process is aggressive and when the pipe is being held by hand an aggressive power tool can be dangerous.

Detailed description of the drawings
A tool for chamfering plastic pipes comprising of a main body section (1) provided with an abrasive area (2) mounted on a tapered surface (3) for engaging the work piece where the outer diameter (OD) of the taper is slightly greater than that of the pipe to be chamfered with extra tolerance to allow for variation in pipe diameter. The main body is also provided with a method of attaching various drive adapters (4)
Claims (1)
- Claims I) A tool for chamfering plastic pipes comprising of a main body section provided with an abrasive area mounted on a tapered surface for engaging the work piece where the outer diameter of the taper is greater than that of the pipe to be chamfered with extra tolerance to allow for variation in pipe diameter 2) A tool as claimed in claim one where the abrasive substance used is a carbide grit 3) A tool as claimed in claim one where the abrasive surface is brazed onto the taper 4) A tool as claimed in claim one where the main body is provided with a method C' of attaching various drive adapters 5) A tool as claimed in claim one where the main body is provided with a fitting to directly fit a power tool drive mechanism 6) A tool as claimed in claim one where the method of connecting drive adapters is by way of a thread 7) A tool as claimed in claim one where the method of connecting drive adapters is by way of a taper 8) A tool as claimed in claim one where the abrasive surface is only present around 20-50% of the tapered surface 9) A tool as claimed in claim one where the inclusive taper angle is between 200 and 40°.
