Abstract

An acrylic vehicle registration plate, conforming to British Standards, that has an adhesive back panel connected it to the bodywork of a vehicle. The adhesive back panel, when forced away from the registration mark, commences a chemical molecular change in the numbering and lettering, thereby rendering the registration plate obsolete to any criminal activity.

Description

* Ant-Theft and Tamper Proof Vehicle Registration Marks.
This invention relates to a device fitted to the rear of a standard British Number Plate which will help prevent the theft or unauthorised removal of a number plate from a registered United Kingdom vehicle.
At present the theft of vehicle registration plates in the United Kingdom has vastly increased due to various economic factors.
With reference to figure 1, a diagram of a standard British Vehicle Registration plate, (not to scale), built to British Standard measurements, BS AU 145D, it can be seen that the rear of the number plate has an adhesive panel, marked "I", which attaches itself to the bodywork of the vehicle concerned.., i.e., motor cycle, lorry or car. This adhesive strip marked "1" is positioned on the rear of the plate so that the numbers and letters displayed at the front of the plate come into contact with the adhesive panel. The adhesive panel is of sufficient strength that does allow the number plate to fall off unless removed by deliberate or accidental force. The numbers and letters of the registration mark within the acrylic plastic number plate, consist of a chemical consistency, whose molecular structure changes automatically when the rear adhesive strip is broken.
Once the number plate has been forced off the vehicle, whether by a thief or accidental damage, the chemical change to the numbers and lettering is designed to match the colour background of the number plate. This renders the front number plate completely white or rear number plate completely yellow. Thus any potential thief will be prevented from readily stealing the identity of the vehicle concerned for any criminal purpose...
This new type of registration plate would have the option of additional screw holes, marked "2" on attached diagram, for added strength if desired. The adhesive panel would be positioned to allow the fitting of bolts to the vehicles bodywork, without activating a chemical change to the registration mark.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS.
    (I) A registration plate fitted to all types of vehicles that will protect the owners of vehicles from the theft of their number plates.
    (2) These vehicle registration plates can be fitted by the manufacturers and distributors of new vehicles or the owners of privately owned vehicles.
    (3) The adhesive panel to the rear of the number plate is of sufficient strength to prevent it falling off from vibration.
    (4) The letters and numbers within the acrylic number plate will be compliant with British Standards regulations for colour and size.
    (5) The colour change to the number and letters will be to the current British Standards background colours of yellow to the rear plate and white to the front plate.
    (6) Upon the registration mark being removed from its bodywork it will be necessary to purchase a new number plate from an authorised distributor as it would no longer be displaying any registration mark.
