Abstract

The present invention works as a reminder, for the purpose of the renewal of a vehicle registration. It has both anaesthetic appeal, as well as the function as a registration reminder device. The function is crucial for identifying, the exact registration due date the vehicle plate number and Vehicle identification number, Vin no. The front of the registration reminder device is made from vinyl and would attach to the inside of a window of a motor vehicle or caravan and can be housed in a plastic case and attached, to a trailer or motorcycle. The reserve side is made from paper and can be written on with vehicles full expiry date, plate number and Vin no. The registration label device when attached can be viewed as a reminder device for the registration due date. The device can be used for both private and commercial use, for example motor vehicle dealerships could use the device ( label ) for both advertising their dealership and for the purpose of identification and registration renewal due date. Description

(1) DESCRIPTION "REGISTRATION LABEL - REMINDER DEVICE" (0001) The NSW driving public have been reliant on the renewal label system, for the registration of their vehicles since 1932. On the 1st January 2013, the NSW Government abolished the need to display a registration label, for vehicle under 4.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass, GVM. This generally includes cars, motorcycles, light trailers, caravans light buses and taxis. ( 0002) The NSW Government has followed W.A & S.A Governments, in the abolishment of the registration label, being displayed on a registered vehicle. This is due to the introduction of new camera, technology being used by N.S.W police. The N.S.W police are no longer are reliant on registration labels, to prove registration. However when a registration label device is placed in view on a vehicle, it acts as a reminder for the registration renewal date, whilst being a useful identifier for the general public and dealerships. The identifiers displayed on the label also help the with the buying and selling process and helps dealerships keep a record of the large volume of vehicles, in their yards. (0003) The labels display important facts about the vehicle to a buyer, of both private or commercial sale. For example the vehicles number plate, the Vin no, and full expiry date. (0004) The registration label in particular is relied upon for where the driver, may not be the owner responsible for the registration, of that vehicle. However it is the responsibility of a driver of a vehicle, to know whether the vehicle he is driving or the trailer he is towing has current registration.

(2) (0005) An unregistered vehicle also becomes, an uninsured vehicle. There are many circumstances were drivers are required to drive, a work vehicle in the line of their daily duties. For example drivers of leased vehicles, taxis and drivers of fleet vehicles. The registration device (label) would help to establish current registration details, of that vehicle. It is the drivers responsibility, to know if a vehicle has current registration, before they drive that vehicle. ( 0006) An article published in the West Australian on the 22nd May, 2012 said that most people want the registration label back. A survey by the RAC, revealed that 70 % of 1906 people, the insurer asked. And a fifth had forgotten to renew their registration since it was scraped in 2010. There are serious consequences if a vehicle becomes unregistered, heavy fines and in some extreme circumstances a jail term, could result. (0007) Most at risk and disadvantaged are the older population, where a registration label has become something the elderly rely upon, as their reminder. New technology is not always available and can be confronting for them. The removal of the registration label, has certainly become a disadvantage to them and to the community at large.
