Abstract

A central heating system which includes at least one thermostatic motorized controlled electronically and wirelessly by a transmitting/receiving circuit attached to it, which communicates with a main computer / controller. Preferably the system is for a house, flat, office etc, Data transmitted to the controller from the said valve is then used to control the operation of the valve to control the flow of fluid through the radiator thus controlling the heat being emitted by the radiator. The controller can also be used to set a desired temperature for the area at a desired time by a system administrator. Preferably, the data is exchanged on fixed time intervals ensuring full control of the temperature all the times.

Description

Automated Heat Energy Saving System (AHESS) System objective The solution is to provide a centralized control point to adjust room temperature in house/building.
This will ensure that no heat is wasted at any time. Hence it is very environmental friendly as it cuts down the amount of wasted source of energy (most of the time natural gas). It consists of special electric motorized valves controlling hot water flow to radiators. These valves will send information to the main computer which will analyse it and send controlling signals appropriately. Hence controlling the room(s) temperature at as previously programmed temperature and time.
System Design 1. The main computer will run a program which is able to control the temperature of each radiator separately or grouped.
2. According to the diagrams, the temperature of each radiator will be monitored separately by means of a thermostatic motorized valve fitted on the radiator.
3. The main computer will receive remote signals from each radiator identifying the status of the valve (i.e. on/off position), temperature and battery status.
4. The computer will send appropriate signal controlling the valve status according to the pre-programmed software.
Items specifications
* Main Computer 1. Normal PC fitted with RS-232 serial port 2. Application to be designed to record timings & temperatures of each valve.
3. A send/receive unit attached to the serial port which will be used in receiving signal information from different radiators and posting back different commands.
4. Process information received from the valves circuits and act accordingly. This might be switching ON/OFF certain valves or warning the user for low battery and battery failure.
* Radiator Heater Unit 1. Normal heater radiator 2. Thermostatic valve powered by 9V battery type 3. Electronic circuit (send/receive function) to transmit and receive information / commands to and from the main computer.
* Information reciprocated between the main computer and the valves includes: * Current temperature around the radiator * Battery status * Current valve position * This circuit will energize the motor to open/shut the valve as and when required.
Signal amplifier (optional depending on the area covered). This will amplify and resend weak signals between the main computer and all radiators. It won't be used in smail areas but might be useful in large areas or areas with large obstacles which will prevent signals to travel to/from the main computer.
Conclusion
AHESS is a complete solution that will reduce the wasted energy in rooms, building and large closed areas. It will ensure having a full control over the heating radiators all times. Recording the working times and the temperature for each heating radiator on the computer application will mean the temperature template can be setup for once and it will run the whole building/house automatically.

Claims (2)

  1. Automated Heat Energy Saving System (AHESS) Claims 1. A thermostatic motorized valve powered by a 9V battery is controlled by an electronic circuit which is linked wirelessly to a main computer exchanging information and sending/receiving control signals between the computer and the valve allowing full control of the hot water flow into the radiator.
  2. 2. A software application running on the main computer recording the temperature readings from the valves in fixed time intervals and comparing them to the pre-set temperature recorded previously by the software administrator and hence having unattended and full control over all valves individually. * .*.
