Abstract

A duvet retaining device comprises a strip of material having a pocket at one into which a semi-rigid material is placed and means for attaching the other end of the device to a duvet cover. The end containing the semi-rigid material is placed underneath the mattress to hold it in position. The semi-rigid material maybe plastic. The means of attaching maybe by knotting, button and button hole, hook and loop fastening or spring operated clip. The strip of material may be fitted with or made entirely of elastic or elasticated material. The strips of material may be sewn into the duvet cover at the manufacturing stage.

Description

Duvet Retainers This invention solves the problem of unwanted duvet movement whilst sleeping which, especially when a bed is shared, can lead to a duvet not covering the beds occupant(s).
Duvets are rarely long or wide enough to tuck in under the mattress and many people prefer duvets precisely because of the freedom of movement that this brings. The problem is that quite otlen a duvet can become so out of place that it ceases to cover its occupants.
The basic principle of duvet retailers is that they keep the duvct roughly in position whilst still allowing air flow and easy movement for the occupant(s).
Description:
A number of sizes will be required dependent upon bed size hut a medium sized set suitable for a standard single or double duvet and mattress is herein described: A strip of material (cotton or similar) approximately 30mm wide and 650mm long has a 300mm long pocket at one end which holds a plastic strip -see Diagram 1. This end fits under the mattress and the other end attaches to the duvet and is either plain or can he fitted with a securing device such as a button hole, a Velcro type strip or a spring operated clip -see Diagram 2.
As an option the strip of cotton can be fitted with a length of elastic to allow more movement for the duvet.
The invention will now be described solely by way of' example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: The duvet cover itself' can be secured to the retainer by knotting at the corners -see Diagram 3.
Alternatively the duvet cover can be attached to the retainer via a button (existing or sewn on especially) -see Diagram 4.
Alternatively the duvet cover can he attached to the retainer via an iron-on Velcro strip -see Diagram 5.
Alternatively the duvet cover can be attached to the retainer via or a clip -see Diagram 6.
Alternatively the duvet cover can, at the manufacturing stage have purpose made strips of material to act as retainers sewn along its edges -see Diagram 7.
The number of retainers used can be varied although two at the base of the bed and one either side a third of the way up the bed would be suggested as a basic requirement -see Diagram 8 where R' indicates a retainer position. )
