Abstract
The invention relates to a weather-proof roof panel for a building e.g. a pergola, shed or smoking shelter and comprises a waterproof modular roof panel consisting of side pieces, sheet material fixed between the side pieces and cross struts holding them together. The side pieces may have grooves routed into the inside edges into which rubber profiled glazing strips may be fixed and then the sheet material may be inserted into the profiled rubber strips creating a water-proof seal. Alternatively the sheets may be inserted directly into the side pieces without the rubber strips and sealed by silicone.
Description
Modular Modular pergola style panels used to create a weather-proof roof.
Pergola-Style Roof Panel system.
Technical field. This invention relates to a pergola-style panel in modular form, multiples of which can be arranged to form a watertight roof for use in garden buildings and landscape structures.
Background. Many gardens have pergola-style structures which do not provide shelter from the rain. This invention allows people to benefit from a watertight area whilst enjoying their garden activities (potting, taking cuttings, barbecuing, relaxing etc.).
Being modular, the panels can be joined to each other to create roof areas of varying dimensions.
The roof system can be used in the Construction of storage buildings, sheds, teahouses, greenhouses, smoking shelters for example.
When sheets of clear or translucent material are used, the area underneath the roof can be used to accommodate plants which will thrive in the favourable environment. An opaque panel will give valu-able shade in sunny climates.
The panels can also be used in the construction of shelters incorporating decking to create places of relaxation.
Essential technical The modular pergola-style panet is constructed to be completely features watertight. When placed in series onto a framework and joined together, they form a weather-proof roof.
The essence of the invention resides in the use of a panel construction, employing side-pieces similar in proportion to the rafters used on pergolas, which have a sheet of glass, plastic or similarly suitable material fixed between them. Figure 1 and la.
The method of fixing the sheet to the side pieces is achieved by routing a groove along the internal face of each side piece and then inserting the sheet. Silicone or similar substance can be inserted into the groove beforehand to render the joint waterproof. Figure 2.
Alternatively, glazing bars can be fixed to the side pieces then the sheet material inserted into the bar, along with silicone if required.
Figure 3.
The rafters are held together using cross struts fixed between them.
Figure 4 (4a).
The panels, when placed side by side, can be joined along the top using lengths of inverted U' section capping in plastic, metal, glass fibre or other suitable material, thereby preventing rainwater from seeping between them. Figure 5.
