Abstract

A tool for use in the construction of close-board or feather-board fencing comprises a flat elongate plate having a downturned lip 6 along one long edge and an upturned lip 9 along the opposite long edge. The tool may incorporate a spirit level or bubble 8 to aid the levelling of the boards. The device may also have a handle 10 for ease of use. The tool is for use in spacing a levelling close-board fencing panels.

Description

Fencing spacer and leveler This invention relates to a tool for spacing
and leveling feather-board/close-board fencing slats.
When erecting a feather-board/close-board fence the slats are very time consuming or inaccurate due to having to space and level each individual one, with a tape measure and spirit level. Some people solve this by fixing the slats by eye guessing the spacing and/or levels to speed up time, rendering it inaccurate.
To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes a hand held tool shaped to space and level the feather-board/close-board slats.
The shape of the tool will make sure that the feather-board/close-board slats will be spaced equally.
Preferably the tool will be fitted with a leveling bubble above the handle.
Preferably the tool will be fitted with a handle to maximize usage.
An eximple of the invention will now be described by refernng to the accompanying drawings: -figure 1 shows a typical fence constructed without the use of the invention -figure 2 shows the fencing spacer and leveler -figure 3 shows the fencing spacer and leveler in use to level and space the slats Figure 1, shows a feather close..board fence with slats with uneven spacing and leveling 1. This is of standard construction methods constructed without the fencing spacer and leveler tool, constructed fixing slats 2 to aris/canter rails 3 on top of a gravel board 5.
Figure 2 shows the fencing spacer and leveler it consists of a metal/hard plastic plate 12 shaped with two lips 6 & 9 these space the boards equally apart 1, the main plate 12 also houses a handle 10, a hanger 7, and a leveling bubble 8 to provide the means of leveling the boards individually as you construct the fence.
Figure 3 shows the simple but effective use of the tool once your initial slat 2 is fixed into position on the aris/canter rail 3, then simply place the tool lip 6 onto the widest edge of the slat 2 and then push the widest edge of the next slat 2 against the other lip 7, once in position check the leveling bubble S is correctly level and apply fixing (e.g. nail) 13 to slat 2. This process is repeated until the fence is completed
