Abstract

The invention relates to a bottle cap dispenser 1 for a bottle 20 with a threaded annular projection 21 extending from the periphery of the aperture 22 to the bottle. Dispenser 1 comprises an internally-threaded annular cap body 2 to engage around the annular projection 21, the cap body 2 having a open face 3A at one end and a sealed face 6 at the other end, a pouring spout 10 extends from the sealed face away from the open face 3A, and a flap 11 pivoted about a pivot point 12 to the cap such that it moves from a first position covering the spout to a second position exposing the spout. In use the cap being mounted on a bottle annular projection, and the flap being moved to the second position to allow the bottle contents to be poured out through the spout, and the flap being moved to the first position to seal the spout when the bottle is not being used. The flap may include a lever 11A on one side of the pivot point and weighted spout cover 11B on the other side. The cap body may include a removable cover plate 6, which can be rotatable relative to the cap body.

Description

Title: Bottle Ca Disoenser The present invention relates to a bottle
cap dispenser, especially for plastics milk bottles.
Many plastics milk bottles have a screw cap which sits on a threaded annular projection extending from the periphery of the aperture to the bottle. When using the milk bottle, the screw cap needs to be removed and milk can then be poured from the bottle. The screw cap then needs to be replaced. Removing and replacing the screw cap can be tedious. Sometimes the screw cap is lost leading to the bottle aperture being open, and debris can fall into the milk. Also milk does not pour too well from the bottle aperture leading to drips of milk trickling down the bottle wall.
The invention seeks to provide an improved bottle cap dispenser for such a bottle.
According to the present invention there is provided a bottle cap dispenser for a bottle with a threaded annular projection extending from the periphery of the aperture to the bottle, said cap comprising: a) an internally-threaded annular cap body to engage around the annular projection, said cap body having a open face at one end and a sealed face at the other end, b) a pouring spout extending from the sealed face away from the open face, and c) a flap pivoted about a pivot point to the cap such that it moves from a first position covering the spout to a second position exposing the spout, in use the said cap being mounted on a bottle annular projection, and said flap being moved to said second position to allow the bottle contents to be poured out through the spout, and said flap being moved to the first position to seal the spout when the bottle is not being used.
Preferably the flap includes a lever on one side of the pivot point and a spout cover on the other side, said spout cover being weighted so that it normally falls into the first position covering the spout.
Preferably the annular cap body has a removable cover plate forming said sealed face and supporting said spout, said cover plate being rotatable relative to the cap body to align the spout relative to a bottle on which the cap sits.
Preferably the spout is a wall extending from an aperture on the sealed face, said wall forming a pouring lip. The pouring lip may be inclined substantially at 15 to the vertical.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a cross section view of a cap dispenser on a bottle with the flap in the first position, and Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the cap dispenser on the bottle with the flap in the second position.
Referring to the drawing there is shown a bottle cap dispenser 1 for a bottle 20 with a threaded annular projection 21 extending from the periphery of the aperture 22 to the bottle. Bottle 10 is of a type known in the art.
Cap dispenser I has an internally-threaded annular cap body2io engage around the annular projection 21. Cap body 2 is formed from an internally-threaded annular skirt 3 extending from an annulus 4 with a circumferential recess 5. Cap body 2 has an open face 3A at one end through which projection 21 can be inserted.
A cover plate 6 is removably fitted to annul us 4 and forms a sealed face to the cap body 2. Cover plate 6 has an annular skirt 7 with an inwardly directed annular projection 8 which engages in annular recess 5. Cover plate 6 has an aperture 9.
A pouring spout in the form of wall 10 is provided extending from aperture 9 in plate 6 away from the open face 3. Wall 10 provides a pouring lip I OA inclined substantially at 150 to the vertical.
A flap Ills provided pivoted about pivot pin 12 to the wall 10. Flap II includes an integral lever I IA on one side of the pivot pin and a spout cover JIB on the other side. Spout cover II B is weighted so that the spout cover 11 B normally falls into a first position covering the spout as shown in Figure 1. Spout cover II B can be raised to a second position as shown in Figure 2 exposing the spout 10 by pressing down on lever I IA.
In use the cap I is mounted on the bottle annular projection 21, and the spout cover ii B is moved to said second position to allow the bottle contents to be poured out through the spout 10.
The spout cover JIB can then fall to the first position to seal the spout 10 when the bottle is not being used, thus preventing ingress of debris into the contents of the bottle.
Cover plate 6 is rotatable relative to the cap body 2 to align the spout relative to a bottle on which the cap sits, e.g. so it pours the bottle contents away from the bottle handle. This is important as the threads on bottles 20 are in often in different positions.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example the flap 11 could include a spring to bias the spout cover JIB over the spout 10.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
