Abstract

A device for removing excess liquid from a cylindrical brush 4 in a cylindrical container 1 consists of a wedge shaped spiral ridge 2 formed within the container 1. The spiral ridge serves to compress the bristles of the brush 4 as it is retracted from the container, therefore removing excess liquid. The excess liquid is the returned to the container reservoir 3 down the spiral ridge 2.

Description

Mascara Applicator! Excess Fluid Remover.
This invention relates to a device for removing excess liquid from a brush as it is withdrawn from a cylindrical container and returning the residue to the reservoir at the base.
When using a standard mascara brush from the tube for application there is always a surplus on the brush (particularly when it is new) , which tends to clog on the lashes. This can cause smudging. The make-up artist professionals recommend that mascara is applied in several thin coats but this is not always possible and users often have to remove excess either by dragging the brush across the top of the tube or with tissue before applying it. This can involve considerable waste.
This invention aims to remove this problem.
Example
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings.
The design is for a cylindrical tube (1), WhCh has a spiral wedge shaped ridge (2) down the length of the inside of the tube as far as the reservoir (3) containing the liquid.
The inside diameter of the ridge is just 2 mm wider than the central stem of the brush. (This can be open to adaptation). As the brush is withdrawn, the bristles are compressed in a downward motion and the excess is removed. As the brush progresses up the tube the excess is carried back down to the reservoir by the spiral. This has the added benefit that a thinner viscosity of liquid can be used enabling several layers to be applied and giving a better finish.
The benefit of this design is that it can be applied to any liquid applicator where the amount of residue on the brush needs to be controlled.

Claims (3)

  1. Claims 1. A liquid applicator which removes excess fluid from a brush
    as the brush is withdrawn from the container.
  2. 2. An applicator according to claim I which consists of a cylindrical container, down the inside of which is a spiral ridge.
  3. 3. A spiral ridge according to claim 2 which is slightly wider in diameter than the wand of the brush 5 and which runs down the inside of the container to the reservoir at the bottom 3 returnIng excess liquid to the reservoir.
