Abstract
A table comprising: a top member 2 with a top surface 3; an auxiliary member 4 attached to the top surface 3 by spacer bars 5; at least one adjustable strap 6 for attaching to and supporting the table directly on the body of an operator. The table also has: at least one cut out area 10; high friction material and/or pads on the lower surface 7.
Description
TABLE FOR SUPPORTING A PIECE OF APPARATUS ON A BODY
It is sometimes difficult to arrange a correct match between a table for supporting a piece of apparatus to be worked on and a seat for the operator so that the piece of apparatus on the table is supported in the correct position relative to the operator seated on the seat. The object of the invention is to overcome this problem.
The invention has a particular application in the field of computer games which react with media devices and may include steering wheels but also has an application in other fields in which a piece of apparatus is supported on a table and is adapted to be worked on by an operator.
According to the invention the table on which the apparatus for working on is supported is adapted to be attached to and supported on the body of the operator.
Preferably the table is attached to and supported on the upper parts of the legs of the operator.
This arrangement enables the operator to operate the piece of apparatus with his hands and to use the lower parts of his legs to operate pedals which are related to the rest of the apparatus, for example.
With this arrangement the operator can sit on a seat at any height and the apparatus will be supported independently on the table in the same position relative to the body of the operator.
The position of the apparatus on the table can be adjusted to any convenient position relative to the operator.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in which
I
Figure 1 is a plan view of the table to which the apparatus may be attached, Figure 2 is a perspective view of the table showing the components used to attach the apparatus to the table, Figure 3 is an end view of the table showing the straps used to attach the table to the legs of the operator, and Figure 4 is an end view of the table showing the components used to attach the apparatus to the top of the table.
The table 1 includes a top member 2 to the top surface 3 of which is attached an auxiliary member 4. The auxiliary member 4 is spaced from the top surface 3 by two spacer bars 5 attached to the ends of the auxiliary member 4. To the lower surface of the top member 2 are attached one or two adjustable straps 6 which are adapted to be extended around the upper parts of the legs of the operator so that the lower surface 7 of the top member 2 rests on the top surfaces of the legs of the operator. The lengths of the straps can be adjusted and the straps can be opened and closed by adjustable clips 8. The apparatus to be worked on is adapted to be attached to the auxiliary member 4.
The provision of the spacer bars 5 enables the apparatus to be worked on to be attached to the auxiliary member 4 by clamps for example. The thickness of the spacer bars may be variable so as to adjust the height of the apparatus relative to the top member 2 and the legs of the operator.
The top member 2 may be provided with one or more cut out areas 10 for attaching additional pieces of apparatus to the table. The lower surface 7 of the top member 2 may be provided with a high friction material to improve the adhesion to the legs of the operator and/or pads for increased comfort.
The table may alternatively be used to support other types of apparatus which sedentary people may wish to use and work on.
Claims (8)
1. A table 1 adapted to support apparatus to be worked on by an operator and comprising means 5 for attaching to and supporting the table directly on the body of the operator.
2. A table as claimed in Claim 1 comprising at least one adjustable strap 6 for attaching the table I directly to the legs of the operator.
3. A table as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 comprising an auxiliary member 4 attached to and spaced from the top surface of the table.
4. A table as claimed in Claim 3 comprising means for attaching the apparatus to the auxiliary member 4.
5. A table as claimed in any one of the preceding Claims comprising at least one aperture 10 for use in attaching additional pieces of apparatus to the table.
6, A table as claimed in any one of the preceding Claims in which the surface 7, which is adapted to abut against the legs of the operator, is coated with a relatively high friction material.
7. A table as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which the surface 7 is provided with pads for increased comfort.
8. A table adapted to support apparatus to be worked on by an operator substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
