Abstract

244,633. Collis, M. April 24, 1925. Rolling-machines; coating apparatus with powdered materials. - A machine for forming dough into halfmoon rolls comprises a dough-hopper 9 and flour-bin 8 delivering to the space between pairs of rollers 2, 3, 4, and an air-pump 37 actuated by the roller-driving mechanism for producing blasts of air from a perforated pipe 38 in the flour-bin for dusting the rollers with flour. The flattened dough passes along an inclined shelf 60 to a conveyer belt 61 and beneath a rolling-board 70. The rolls are delivered on to a tray 82, and are bent to the half-moon shape against blocks 94 at the lower end of the tray. The rollers 2. 3, 4 and the pump-actuating shaft 31 are driven by a single sprocket chain in a gear casing at the side of the machine. An arm 32 on the shaft 31 engages a roller 33 mounted on the piston rod of the pump. The piston rod is returned by a spring 42 and cushioned by a spring 43, and is guided by a fixed bar 40 which is a working fit between the lower part 34 of the piston rod and a bucket 39 carried thereby. A check-valve is arranged between the pump and the delivery tube 38 and the flour bin is closed by cover 51. A partition 10 between the dough hopper and the flour bin has a bevelled edge 11 adjacent the rollers 2, and carries tapered grooves 13 which extend between the rollers 2 and limit, the width of the dough blank whilst directing it towards the rollers 3. Additional guides 53, 54 confine the dough to the centre of the rollers and prevent it from wrapping around them. The upper edge of the shelf 60 and a separate scraper 62 prevent the, dough wrapping araund the rollers 4. One of the rollers 4 is adjustable. by thumbscrews 57 for controlling the thickness of the dough blank. The shaft 60 is provided with pivoted guides 92 for delivering the blanks centrally to the belt 61. The belt 61 carries spikes 69 to engage the dough, and the upper run is supported by a platform 90. The rolling-board 70, carrying buttons 78 at the front end and spikes 81 at the rear end, is adjustable and is loosely suspended from bridge-pieces 73, 74 with the front end near the conveyer belt and the rear end slightly raised. The front end is bevelled at 80 to receive the dough. The board is free to rise as the dough passes beneath, and the rear end is pressed down by light springs 79. The delivery tray 82 is hinged to the frame at 83 and is provided with a pivoted leg 85 so that its inclination may be varied, and with. a retaining ledge 84. The roller 66 of the conveyer belt 61 is adjustable.
