Abstract

A radiator valve comprises a body in which a cylinder A having a right-angled bore B is rotatably fitted. The cylinder is held in position by nut F and a stem H of the cylinder is rotated by knob K. Knob K has pointers L that show the position of the valve in relation to indicia cast into the valve body. Alternatively the top of the stem H could be formed as a pointer, in which case the knob K would not be required.

Description

I 2445221 Drawing No6 is a variation of the L' bored ball, but here the
ball is replaced by a cylinder'A' but it still has a right-angle bore B' through it. In this case there is only one seal ring C' this ring locates in a groove D' around the water connection E'. The cylinder'A' is assembled from the top and held in position by a centraly bored nut F' which is made water tight by a seal ring G' the stem of the cylinder H' comes up through the nut F' this stem is sealed by one or two 0 rings J', the top of the stem H' is shaped in such a way that the control knob K' will only fit on to it one way. This knob K' will have an indicator pointer'L' which will show how open or closed the valve is by relating to numbers cast into the valve body or by a graduated disc around the stemAfter the valve is set the cap M' is fitted over the top of the valve covering the control knob K' so that it cannot be accidentaly altered. The knob K' would have an indicator L' on each side 1 8osdegrees apart, the numbers or division marks on the valve or disc would also be repeated on each side so that the valve could be fitted either end of the radiator and still be easily set and read.As with the cylinder A' the ball in drawing 4 could have the stem'H' as part of the ball, not having to have it as a separate item. If the stem H' is thick enough the top of the stem could be formed as a pointer to indicate how open the valve is, in which case the stem would then be turned by a tool and the knob'K' would not be required. It may be necessary to have an access hole with a cap and seal at point N' in order to machine the 0 ring groove D'.

Claims (4)

1. A central heating radiator valve which has an inlet and an outlet incorporating a cylinder with an L' shaped bore through it, this bore is large enough not to restrict the flow when in its open position. The cylinder having a groove machined across the top of it. so that the cylinder can he rotated by a stem which has a tongue at one end to mesh with the said groove and a knob at the other to rotate the stem and thus the cylinder, alternitively the stem may be formed as part of the cylinder itself (as illustrated).
2. A radiator valve as in claim one wherein the outlet of the cylinder is sealed by an 0' ring.
3. A radiator valve as in claims one and two wherein it is formed in the traditional radiator valve shape of a right-angle, assembled by use of a removable and resealable cap, which has a secondary use of housing the stem scaling ring or rings.
4. A radiator valve according to any preceding claims where in it has only one main sealing ring.
