Abstract

A device for securing a caravan or trailer comprises a post 1 fixed to the ground or to a wall. The post 1 is a hollow square section tube with an elongate slot E and has parts C,D to which a towing eye 5 or towing hitch 4 is fixed by a ball 2. A sliding mechanism 3 slides in the slot E until it rests above the ball or hitch. Two holes in the slide and part A of the post will be aligned and padlocks can then be placed through the holes to secure the sliding mechanism in position and prevent removal of the hitch.

Description
Caravan / Trailer locking post This invention relates to a device for securing caravans or trailers which are fitted with a towing hitch or towing eye.
This caravan or trailer locking post is to be used when the caravan or trailer is being stored or not used. it provides a solid anchor point with which to secure the caravan or trailer to. The post can have 4 applications, it can be:- 1 placed into a base (which is concreted into the ground) from which it can be removed when required.
2 concreted into the ground.
3 Bolted to the floor.
4 Bolted to the wall.
The caravan or trailers hitch is located onto the ball, or towing eye is secured by the bar under the ball. A sliding mechanism is slid down a slot in the post, until it rests above the ball or hitch. 2 holes on the sliding mechanism are aligned with the 2 nearest holes on the post. 2 padlocks are then placed through these aligned holes which secure the sliding mechanism in that position. This then stops the mechanism from being moved upwards which prevents removal of the hitch off the ball or removal of the bar releasing the towing eye.
The invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Page 1 of 2 shows the 3 parts of the post from the front.
Number 1 is the post which is a hollow section square tube with an elongated slot down the front labelled E Number 1 has four items fitted to it A, B, C and D. Number 2 slides into parts C and D but not all the way through.
Number 3 slides up an down the slot marked E in number 1.

Number 4 is a towing hitch.
Number 5 is a towing eye.
Number 2 slides through C and goes through an hole in number 5 then passes through item D. Or Number 4 fits on to the ball on item 2 Then Number 3 slides down the slot ( E) in number 1 as far as it can go.
When number 3 is secured with the 2 padlocks through the holes in item number 3 and the holes in parts A and B it stops item 4 from being lifted off the ball on item number 2 or the removal of item number 2 releasing item number 5.

Claims (4)

  1. Claims 1 A security post that is used to secure caravans or trailers
    which have either a towing hitch or towing eye.
  2. 2 A sliding mechanism that can be padlocked at various points, depending on what it needs to secure.
  3. 3 The sliding mechanism can be rotated through 180 degrees to offer a different sized plate to lower and secure.
  4. 4 The sliding mechanisms holes are spaced to give minimal movement between that hole nd the next available aligned hole.
