Abstract
A garment lining that provides support for prosthetic and natural breasts comprises a lining in the form of a bra with supportive boning where selected edges of the lining are attached to an outer garment. The lining is made from a number from a number of panels with boning 10, 11 attached to provide additional support. Preferably the lining has a pocket 12 on the inside of the lining to support a prosthesis or any other suitable item such as additional padding. The lining may be secured around the wearer by a releasable fastening on the back of the lining as per a conventional bra. Preferably the lining does not have straps.
Description
DESCRIPTION
TITLE
Garment lining to form sole support for natural or prosthetic breasts and any other
suitable item.
BACKGROUND
This invention provides total support for prosthetic and natural breasts or any other suitable item and replaces the bra or any other supportive under garment. This invention can form the lining of a wide range of clothing and garment designs.
Many women undergo mastectomy surgery following breast cancer. Although some choose to have reconstruction surgery a large percentage of women wear a prosthetic breast. This must be supported in a way that prevents the prosthetic from moving away from the body or from side to side.
Women wear bras to support the prosthesis, and bras can be restrictive, hot and
uncomfortable
Radical mastectomy surgery can also include the removal of lymph nodes under the arm and in the chest wall. This causes scaring in the armpit area and a flat appearance to the chest above the breast area.
These factors of lymph node removal and prosthetic support have the result that a large range of women's clothing styles can not be worn including many low Cut styles to side or front and backless or strapless tops.
This is inconvenient and can be both uncomfortable and psychologically damaging to women who feel they can no longer wear many styles, especially, but not exclusively, those worn during hot weather or when getting "dressed up" and in evening wear.
Many women also find that the anti cancer drugs prescribed post surgery cause the person to feel constantly hot or in sporadic flushes, so in many circumstances sleeved and or lull backed garments can be very uncomfortable.
This invention will increase the range of styles available for prosthesis wearers and to include clothing that reveal the wearer's back and shoulders. This invention is also comfortable and supportive for the natural side, and could therefore be worn by ladies who have not had mastectomy surgery This invention can be made to standard clothes sizes and is adaptable to fit a range of breast shapes and can also be made for an individual person
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
To overcome the need for a bra the invention incorporates panelling, inner and outer compartment shapes and boning sewn together in such a way to provide support for natural or prosthetic breasts and any other suitable item. The two back panels are fastened together by a zip, hook and eye arrangement or any other fastening device. Selected edges are attached to an outer garment and thus the invention forms the garment lining.
ADVANTAGES
The invention allows the wearer to wear a range of garments without a bra and provides comfortable support for natural or prosthetic breasts and any other suitable item Garments can be attached and can be of many styles including, but not exclusive to, halter neck and various off shoulder and low back cut styles The invention allows the wearer a greater choice of clothing design particularly, but not exclusively, during hot weather or for "dressing up" and evening wear. Additional padding can be added to the outer compartment of the invention if the wearer chooses to wear tight or close fitting garments The invention also provides comfort without the need for narrow straps digging into the shoulders The invention provides secure support for the prosthesis The invention allows the prosthesis to be worn securely without rubbing or sticking to the sensitive skin area of the mastectomy The invention provides equal and secure support for the natural breast The invention provides secure support for any other suitable item
INTRODUCTION TO DRAWINGS
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a drawing of the invention showing the back panels, middle panels, side panels and the Outer compartment support panels.
Figure 2 is a drawing of the invention showing the features of Fig I plus the additional features of the inner compartment panels that allow the insertion of the prosthesis or other
suitable item.
