Abstract

A spirit level comprising a main body part, a part that slides to extend the length of the level, and another part at another end of the level that when pulled outwardly and rotated through 90 degrees creates a right angled level to be used as a guide in construction of corners both internal and external.

Description

The' Red Level'
Background
In the construction of corners in brick and block work, there is a need for a right angled guide to build accurately. The Invention addresses the normal uses of a spirit level allowing it to turn into a set square with which to use as a guide in corner construction.
Statement of Invention
The Invention is not only a spirit level in the conventional means, to be used to check for horizontal and vertical accuracy. In one swift and simple movement it easily splits in two turns through 90 degrees to become a set square.
The Invention comprises of 3 parts, the middle or main body a box section of aluminium allowing the other 2 parts to connect. The second section passes smoothly inside the main body creating various lengths, shorter when pushed together and longer when pulled apart.
The third section is joined to the main body by a pivotal arm allowing the third section to rotate through 90 degrees to the main body. The arm is connected to the third section in a fixed position with a spring inside the third section pulling the to pieces together.
A groove in the main body allows the arm to rotate through 90 degrees and locating pins in the third section insert into pre-drilled holes in the main body at the end creating a straight connection and in the groove to hold the sections at 90 degrees. There is also a locking mechanism on the top side of the level, an oblong piece of aluminium connected to a track in the main body that slides over the locating holes to stop dirt and dust getting into the mechanism, then it slides in between the third section and themainbodytolockthetwosecdonsfirmlyinplaceasshowninfigure6&7. Therearetheusual vials at horizontal, vertical and 45 degrees as with a standard spirit level.
Advantages The advantages of the Invention are corners built accurately and quickly, using only one device, which means less tools to carry around. The Invention can be used to build internal and external corners, to check door and window frames are square.

Claims (3)

Claims Claim 1 A spirit level built of three sections adjoined to one another, one to extend the level, the other to rotate through 90 degrees using a connecting arm rotating on an axis inside the main body to create a right angle between the two sections. Claim 2 A spirit level according to claim 1, that rotates on a pivotal ann connected to the main body, the other end connected to a separate section, the two parts forced together by means of a spring loaded arm. Claim3 A spirit level according to claim 1 & 2, where as the two sections are fixed in position using locating pins, adjacent holes and a locking mechanism that slides between the two sections. Claim4 A spirit level according to claim I, made of Aiwninium, plastic or any other suitable material. Claim 5 A spirit level according to claim 2, allowing the connecting ann to pass through a slot in the main body tobeusedasauideforsaidbeflthehoriwflta%de.d Claim6 A spirit level according to claim 1, the end section of which rotates through 90 degree's around the main body whilst still attached to the main body using a spring loaded rotational arm. 1) A spirit level built of three sections adjoined to one another, one section to extend the length of the level, the other to rotate through 90 degrees using a connecting ann rotating on an axis insideibe main body to create a right angle between the two sections.
2) A spirit level as claimed in claim 1, wherein a pivotal arm interconnects the main body to the section which rotates through 90 degrees, there being a spring inside the rotatable section which acts to draw the main body and the rotatable section together.
3) A spirit level as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the main body and rotatable section are secured together by locating pins in the rotatable section being positioned in corresponding holes in the main body, there being a locking mechanism to lock the sections together. * * * *** *S* * * S. * * a S. * * S. * S. * S * * S. * * . .
