Abstract
Disclosed is a secure website that allows account holders to control the transactions that they wish to make, unlocking and locking cards using buttons on the site, or authorising individual payments. The system works by a central host (hosting the cardlock website) sending secure emails to card issuers to activate or deactivate cards when requested by the user.
Description

Cardlock

Description

Cardlock is a way of protecting people from fraudsters who are able to use the victims card information to make purchases or steal direct from their account. Despite many people having access to card information via interenet orders and mail order or even pin card fraud, cardlock is a unique way of rendering that information useless to the fraudster.

Cardlock is essentially run as a secure website. The card/cards are registered with Cardlock and permission is given to communicate with the customers card company direct. This will be done with automated email messages sent to the lenders card account or bank account.

The customer pays a subscription of 2 (estimated) per month per card. Card lock will have an agreement with the account holders bank and half the fee would be paid in commission to the persons card lender or bank for their admin costs and loss of other commissions.

If more than 2 cards are registered then they are charged at I per additional card.

The card details are not fully disclosed to cardlock so that protection is given against hackers.

The customer will be able to log on to their cardlock account and view their transaction activity. If they wish to lock their cards they will press the stop button and specify which cards are to be locked. The card accounts to be locked will then be sent a security email informing the card company of the account holders commands.

This will happen instantaneously and the card holder will be able to see that their cards are locked.

Once the cards are locked no transaction can take place unless the account holder unlocks the card/cards.

Claims (1)
-
I

* Claims The Pitch How many times have you given your personal details and financial information out over the phone or to people in shops infact any mail order with a credit card. How many companies, institutions and people have got the numbers of your credit card? How long have you had your credit card? HOW MANY CARDS DO YOU HAVE? How many of the above have you given your card details to.? Have you ever bought online and punched in your credit details to any unknown companies?, or known companies.? How many orders have you placed overseas? From holidays purchases to petrol purchases if you have a card of any sort then you will have given your card details to either a computer or a complete stranger in a shop or over the phone. You wouldn't just hand your card out to strangers in the street would you? But that is effectively what we do when we give our card details either online or over the phone or to third parties in stores.

Problem 2 Have you ever lost your card and worried needlessly, lost sleep, cancelled cards then found them again Or Actually lost cards only to find that some-one else has been using them. In fact have you ever been a victim of fraudulent card use?? Cardlock -the solution Cardlock is an all in one system of controlling when you cards are available for use.

You can run cardlock by sms text messaging or email. A cardlock active icon will appear on your windows tray so that you will always know whether your cards are active or locked. You can leave you cards permanently unlocked or permanently locked, or you can create an open window of when a specific sum can be taken from your card and specify even the sum that will be taken and by who. Either side of this window the cards will be locked and only that exact sum can be taken. There can be no fraudulent misuse of your cards when your cards are locked. With cardlock you can use the emergency lock button that means that all of your cards will be locked with immediate effect.

Locked cards You will need to opoen a cardlock account and authorise cardlock to send security emails to you card company. When you ask cardlock to lock your card, cardlock will send an email to the company of the card or cards instructing that the card must be locked. This means that no transaction can take place other than by use of your card with the correct pin. No other transactions can take place. No-one who has your card details will be able to use the card because the card is locked.

Full Emerencv Lock Including Pin There will be two emergency lock buttons. Emergency Lock' will lock all cards in the way stated above, and the Emergency Lock Including Pin' button will render the

S

card completely useless until re-activated by the cardholder. It will act as though the cArd, account and pin have been frozen.

Lost cards/Stolen cards If you lose your cards or your cards are stolen you can use the emergency stop button from your PC or text message your account to lock all of your cards. No transactions can take place. You may have only mis-placed your cards or wallet and Want the piece of mind that no-one can use your cards.

Mail order fraud I first thought of the idea of cardlock one morning when I awoke. The previous day a computer company in America that I had already placed an order with over the phone, contacted me to tell me that they had not taken the money from my card because it is company policy not to accept foreign cards ( United Kingdom). The order was for a 1024 laptop. I decided not to buy the laptop and in the end ordered from Dell. That morning though, I realised that I had given my card details to some shop assistant guy in America who had passed my details to their accounts department and whoever else he needed to in order to process my order. I suddenly realised how often I use my cards over the phone and how easy it would be for any of these strangers to use my cards for their own use or to sell on my details to professional fraudsters. For the purchase of my laptop I gave my name, my address for delivery, my card numbers and expiry and even the security code on the back. Anyone with that information could use it fraudulently. I was lucky, the order didn't go through and no-one used my card details.

The Greatest Advantage of Cardlock The amazing thing about Cardlock is that you may have your cards on your person and have purchased something earlier over the net or over the phone, but because you can have your card on a permanent state of lock and control when money is taken from your card, your cards are useless to anyone else.

Insurance Insurance for your cards is no longer needed. If your cards are managed by cardlock then they are automatically covered by our own insurance. You will never have to pay extortionate insurance for all of your individual cards again. All the cards on cardlock will be covered without additional charge, thus saving you money as soon as you register with cardlock.
