Abstract
Apertures that may be of various profiles are distributed along or around a saw blade 1 so as to form collecting pockets for the displaced dust, particles, fibres and debris that is generated during cutting. This prevents compaction and allows free and easy clearance, helping prevent jamming of the blade or clogging of the cutting action. The apertures may be circular, rectangular, angular, slotted, multi-sided or form a network pattern, and may be equally spaced, or provided at irregular intervals along the saw blade.
Description

IMPROVEMENT OF ThE DESIGN AND ACTION OF HAND AND RECIPROCATING SAW
BLADES.

I Brian Robshaw of "Riverdale" Farleigh Lane Maidstone Kent ME 16 9LY Do hereby declare the invention, for which a patent may be granted to me and the method by which it is to be performed, to be described in and by the

following statement.

This invention relates to an improvement to hand and powered saws appliances & appertaining saw blades.

It is well known that frictional resisting forces are built up by the cutting action of such saws with particular reference to green timber and or damp wood. The resultant dust particles, fibres and debris that are generated by the cutting action increase the frictional resistance and clog the blades movement and cutting efficiency thus creating the need forgreater energy and frictional heat generation. In extreme cases this can result in the saw blades becoming jammed in the material being sawn or cut.

This invention incorporates apertures of circular, rectangular, angular, slotted multi sided or network patterned form disposed along the saw or cutter blade in equal spaced or irregular spaced intervals adjacent to the cutting teeth edge of the blade. The area of the apertures is relative to the volume of the dust, particles fibres and debris generated by "X" numbers of the cutting teeth and their depth of cut per stroke also the foresaid apertures collect the dust, particles, fibres debris and shall be of such size that compaction does not occur.

As the saw blade cleans the material being sawn or cut the dust, particles, fibres and debris fall freely, clean of the cutting section. Thus resulting in a non clogging, non jamming saw blade action using minimum energy and preventing frictional heat that could reduce tool steel properties or actual fracture of the blade.

The description of the invention

A typical hand saw or powered reciprocity saw blade 1 of 1 A is perforated by circular, or multi sided, or angular slots or a network pattern at regular or irregular spacing 2 along the blade at a suitable distance 3 from the cutting toothed edge 4 the perforation dimensions shall be proportional to the volume of dust, particles, fibres and debris displaced by each individual cutting stroke or action.

Typical aperture forms and profiles are shown 5 but their distribution of multiplicity must not reduce the blades stiffness to the cutting force applied.

The apertures must be of notch free profile to ensure the normal shock proof value of such saw blade usage.

IDEA

My profession is a carpenter so I use handsaws frequently to cut all types of wood, hardwood, softwood, seasoned wood, and wet wood.

When I cut wet or damp wood, I often rub candle wax on the blade to cut down the friction, because heat builds up and the blade expands and gets stuck so you have to excert more pressure on the saw to make a cut. So I thought that if you make some holes in the blade it will displace the heat and stop the blade from getting hot, also the sawdust goes into the holes, which stops the build up of saw dust around the blade so it stops it jamming.

I also found that the quantity of sawdust/debris generated should be less than the volume of the apertures along the saw blade.

I have produced a prototype and added extra holes to cater for this effect.

Claims (1)
-
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:- 1. The invention eliminates the saw blade surfacesclogging with the resultant resistance to the cutting action, the need for increased energy input and build up of frictional heat.

2. That green, wet and damp wood or other substances may be cut freely without their inherent and increased tendency to clog and jam in the substance being sawn or cut.

3. Frictional resistance to the blades cutting action is reduced to a minimum ensuring accuracy if the cut, preventing seizure or fracture of the saw blade.

4. Fractional heat is eliminated thus preventing the deteration of the saw blades steel properties.

5. The invention is of particular value for the cutting of tree roots when wet sap conditions exist. 1+

AMENDMENTS TO THE CLAIMS HAVE BEEN FILED AS FOLLOWS:- WHAT WE CLAIM IS:- 1. The invention eliminates the saw blade surfaces clogging with the resultant resistance to the cutting action, the need for increased energy input.

4.
