Board games; games of chance.-An appliance of the teetotum type comprises a wheel capable of being spun by hand and bearing on its face various colours, numbers or other distinctive markings, a catch pivoted upon the under side of the wheel and free to swing in a radial direction, and a fixed plate formed on its periphery with teeth between which the pivoted catch engages when the centrifugal force developed by the spinning of the wheel fails to maintain the catch sufficiently extended in a radial direction. The appliance, Fig. 2, has a sheet metal base h with stamped up supports h<1> for a serrated plate d and pivot guide j. The spinning disc a is attached to a pivot pin c which also serves to stiffen a finger piece a<1> pressed up from the disc. The upper face of the disc bears differently coloured and numbered divisions. A catch b is pivoted on the disc and engages the serrated wheel when the speed sufficiently diminishes. For playing a race game, the appliance is placed in a box, Figs. 7 & 9, with the finger piece a<1> projecting through an opening o' in a cover plate o. A second opening e allows one of the colours or numbers on the disc to be observed when the disc comes to rest. A flap g attached to the box and adapted to be folded over as shown in Fig. 9, is used as a race-course board over which toy horses, Figs. 5 and 6, of stamped metal may be moved according to the results obtained from the spinning of the disc. A compartment M is used for storing the horses.
