Abstract

A hoe comprises a cutting device 1 which forms a closed circumference which can be rotated through 360{ around a centre axis, the cutting device 1 is mounted on a holder 2. The closed circumference has at least one cutting edge 8. The cutting device 1 is connected to the holder 2 by means of mounting devices 3, 4, 9. At least part of the cutting edge 8 is embraced by a shielding device 12. The cutting device 1 is demountable, rotateable and may be flipped over 180{ so to present a new cutting edge. In this way, when the cutting device 1 becomes blunt, it can be first rotated to present a new cutting edge and then flipped over when that edge becomes blunt. Therefore there is no need to sharpen the cutting edge. The cutting device 1 is essentially cylinder shaped with a circular cross-section.

Description

I

G.xdeaho.

S This invention relates to a garden tool, more specifically a hoe with a cutting edge whkh in all material respects, forms a dosed ring.

Background of the Invention

U) The demand to remove weed, me today covered by the means of traditional tools, such as rakes, cultivators, weeders or Dutch hoes. These tools are often heavy, wide and av4cwavd to handle, when u are working bL places crowded with plants under cultum.

Dutch hoes and draw hocs are known to have a flat cutting edge. These tools have a tendency to lift up the soil in big flakes, resulting that these flakes afterwards, has to be cut down in minor pieces with another tool.

In addition to this, the edge of these tools are bdcatcd in a metal with a heavy material thickness, and the edge is typically made of the same material as used to attach the edge to the haudle These Aing edges has the drawback, that it Is quickly getting blunt and this tendency acts In relatively fhst. If the cutting edge is wu' the conçlctc metal part is to be changed. Alternatively the edge requires sharpening.

Also hoes with a cylindershaped metal part mounted on. the end of a handle, are own. A part from the circle. e.g. a circle bit at 60 degrees, is sharpened so that this part cocopiise a cutting cdge This boo Is known as a HcIrclehoeR. The circle-shaped part is drawn through the soil and hereby the weed is cut-The cutlchoe has the disadvantage, that it is heavy and the edge arc typically made of the same material as used to attach the edge to the handle. The cutting edge has the drawback, that It Is quickly getting blunt and this tendency acts in relatively Tsst In addition, are known tools like SE-patent or. 121772 or US-patent or. 3522850.

However, the cutting edge of both these tools consists of a shaped band iron, placed in a niounthig device, and then attached on a handle. The edges of these tools are not made of a closed perimeter, and are therefore not able to be turned around its own centre axis.

Descnpdou The pirpose of this invention can be described, as a way to create a gazdcn tool who can rectif5r one or several of these drawbacks or other thawbacks. Especially it can be seen as a way to create a simple, robust, light and 4ip hoe, with a long lifetime without any maintenance.

This purpose is obtained as described in the enclosed claims. Ecpecially it can be described, how thc holder, in interaction with the elaboration of the cutting devicci is shielding the easy deniountable cutting device, referring to the invention means, that a creation of a sirnpk, robust, light and clieJip hoe without any msintezwnce, is achieved.

The fact that the cutting edge not is made of the se material as a mounting device for mounting the cutting edge on a handle, means that you will get a lightweight garden tool, compared to other known tool. The ring shaped edge end the mounting screws and nuts, are the only parts made of'steel. This means, that this garden tool only has haWof the wclght, compared to a traditional garden tool in the same size.

F1iainorc1 the cutting device said, can be made of a much more suitable material, because this material is not the anne as used to the holder for the cutting edge.

By tbs invention, a garden bce said is created, witch has a ring shaped cutting edge that, as it gt blunt, by the means of simple tools, several limes can be turn around its own centre axis of the closed nag of the cutting device, hereafier can be flipped over sI once agam tint around its own cene axis several times, or eventually exchanged, to make se that you always have a sharp garden tool to cultivate the soil with.

By inoi'n'ng the cutting device in the holder of the said invention, you get a cutting edge, which quickly and simple, by the means of a simple tool, which can be kept in in ur pocket, can be turned, flipped over or exchanged, to make awe to have a sharp garden hoe to work with.

This is especially Important, when the movement away from the body stops, and the mavdnent iiaie-t the body starts. Lesser weight and thereby lesser inertia in the tool during movement, results In lesser strain on a persons back by carrying out a certain amount of work.

Introduction ta the drawings

Figure 1. shows a hoc of said invention, with its ringabaped revolving and exchangeable cutting edge, constructed of a closed circular ring.

Figure2 shows a hoc of said invention seen from the side.

Detailed description of the drwIuga

Figure 1. shows a hoc? which consists of a handle 5, a holder 2 between the handle 5 And a cutting device 1. The cutting device 1 has two edges 6 and a cutting edgeR. the cutting device us mounted on the holder 2 by the means of mounting devices, as in the shown example axe screws 3 and nuts 4. The show cutting device 1 cTcates a closed circumference. In the abown example the closed &cumfercncc arc circular and therefore the cutting device are shaped as a cylinder with an entrance gate 10 and an exitgatcll hithecyinderebapedpart From thIs ft appears, that the cutting device I has fbur holes 9, for the purpose of mounting the cutting device 1 in the holder 2. The bolder consists of the first part 17 designed to be a bandle or as In the shown example, to be a connecting link for mounting the handleS. The second part 13 of the holder 2, consists oft part 13, which essentlaily is semicircular shaped and has a,in the shown example, an extent of app. 180 degrees. Furthermore it appears that the holder 2 has an extension In longiwdinal direction of the cylinder, that stretch out the length of the cutting device 1 in the same direction. This extension, that stretches out the length of the cutting devics 1 in longittvlnn1 direction of the cylinder, appears as the holder 2, when seen from the entence gate JO, consisting of a edge 12 so that the edge 6, at least on a part of its dmwnferencn, is slueld bY its shielding device 12, in the shown example the edge 12.

Furtheimore than having an wider extension in longitudinal direction, than the cutting device 1, the bolder 2 is also able to have an rim who partly swTon1ds the cutting edge Band/or the partly theedge 6.

Furtherntorc, the rim 12 is able to shield for that part of the cutting edge 8 which is riot in use in a certain time and also have a supporting effect on the cutting device I and contribute to keep the cutting devIce 1 in its piece dining use of the hoe 7.

The outerrc1ativdy thin part of the bolder 2, is for one part of the semicircular shaped part, shown on the figure with the reference number 14.

By dentounting the cutting device 1 and turn It 1*0 degrees around a cylinder axls the pail of the edge ashi Figi. is shielded against the soil by ike rim 12 on the mounting device 2, will become the cutting part of the cutting device 1.

This way a ew sharp part of the cutting edge, which Is used to cut th ugh the soil, cotnes to existence. The hoe is drawn through the soil, so the soil r$t hits the hoe on eattance gate JO and a part of the soil Is forced through the opening of the cylinder and forced out of the exit gate 11.

By turning the cutting device 1 so that the entrance gate lOon the cutting device becomee the exit gate 11, more opporbmitica far getting a part of the cutting edges 6.

as the cutting edge * on the side of the cutting device 1 which first hits (be soil, when the hoc? is drawn through the surface of the soil. Both edges 8 arc named as dnttiTlg edges, but it is known that during use of the hoe 7, oniy a part of the edge 8 on that aide who on a certain moment is in the entrance gate aide, consists of the actual cutting edge 16. It is known that the cutting device 1, In the shown example, has a cutting edge 8 both in the envanes gate 10 and In the exit plc 11 and that the cutting alga essentially can be found all the way on the circumference of the cutting device 1.

On the holder 2 Ii Is deseribed how a sharp, exchangeable sod turn able cutting device 1, formed as a closed ting placed so it can cultivate the soil in the drawing direction from the enance gate 10 towards the edt gate 11 and thereby removing unwanted vegetation and also loosen the surface around desired vegetation to improve the access of water, air and nutrients.

The rim 12, who is a part of a shielding device which shicida the cutting edge, Is therefore also contributing to protect desired vegetation, who is standing next to the that is to be wended, from being touched by the hoc. This can e*aily happens when you arc weeding in areas with relatively close standing TUW5 of plants.

If theie is an inner threat in the holder 2, you can do with out the nuts 4. Other mounting devIces such as French serows or a click-locking system can be used to open and close, when demowiting and mounting the cutting device I on the bolder 2. By using a click-locking system, the cutting device I can be demounted and mounted with out the use of any tools.

llnlwier 2 is typically rnacfr of a plastic like material and the cutting device I i typically made of a metal material. The metal can be lmrdeved t least on a part along cutting edges 8.

The cutting device 1 has in the sliowit example a sharpening on the cutting edge 8, but the cutting device can also be made of a material with relatively small wall thidmess so that the edge of the c"ning dcvicc due to the snill wall thkknrs, becomes a self sharpening cutting edge.
