Abstract

A small disposable blade is filled onto rivets in a back plate and clamped into position. The back plate includes slots which allow its position to be adjusted. The clamp is supported by a plate attached to the back plate at the opposite end to the rivets; but on the same face. A screw passes through the clamp and base plate. The back plate may comprise steel or a light alloy.

<p>DISPOSEABLE BLADES</p>

<p>The basis of the idea is to transform an original carpentry plane with a blade that has to be sharpened by hand, to a plane with hardened disposable blades.The idea can be used on both professional and DI.Y. tools.</p>

<p>The original blade is replaced with a steel back plate with a hole for the holding screw A and 2 slots for the horizontal and vertical adjustments B.It also has 3 rivets at the base to keep the blade in place.There is a small plate fixed to the back plate above the horizontal adjustment to allow the clamp to be used,as shown in figure 3.</p>

<p>A small disposable blade can now be fitted onto the rivets and clamped into position with the same adjustment as the original blade.</p>

<p>Hardened disposable blades can be made to ensure a razor sharp plane at all times for a very reasonable price.</p>

<p>This new adaption to the plane would eliminate the time and inconvenience of grinding and sharpening the blade to both the tradesmen and d.i.y. person.</p>

<p>This adaption also means it would not cost a great deal as the body of the plane stays exactly the same but a cheap light alloy body could be manufactured for d.i.y. use.</p>

   <p>1. A carpenter's plane attachment for converting the traditional iron blade to a disposable blade.</p>

   <p>2. A disposable blade can be fitted to the attachment as in Claim 1.</p>

   <p>3. The disposable blade with pre-set holes can be fitted to the attachment form Claim I by aligning the holes in the blade with pre-set rivets on the attachment (back plate) 4. The disposable blade can then be held in place with the original lever sprung clamp.</p>

   <p>5. The backplate has a hole centrically to allow the holding screw to pass through. The holding screw can be adjusted for tension on :
