Abstract

An alloy or composite friction roller is pressed against the tyre of non self propelled vehicle (e.g. caravan, trailer) and is driven to move or manoeuvre the vehicle. The roller has a diamond or random pattern of peaks and troughs to enhance friction between the roller and tyre, rather than having grit bonded to the roller surface.

Description

DL4MOIJD PATTERN ALLOY OR COMpO5fl FRICTION ROLLER FOR USE WITH
DRIVESAm MOVERS

Background

Caravan / Trailer Movers are well known in the caravan industry and comprise of a steel friction roller with a resin grit surface, placed against a tyre to manoeuvre the vehicle, held in place by a steel fabrication to suppo the roller and motor, wbicb fixes onto the chassis of the caravan. The addition of the drive-aid mover to the caravan or trailer adds extra weight to the chassis which is not required by the user.

The steel fiction miter with a resin grit surface is heavy and complex to manufacture as the steel roller needs to be manufacturJ with the resin and grit added to the surface. The consistency of the resin and grit needs to be precise to create the maximum friction on the surface of the roller. The three materials steel, resin and grit expand and contract at different rates making adherence difficult for long periods of thne.

Essential Technical Featnr The present invention comprises of alloy or composite roller that has been manufacwr by being turned (on a lathe), cast, injection moulded or other method to produce a diamond pattern along the surface. The pattern may be smooth or rough in appearance to increase the fzict ion of the roller against the tyre.

The material of the roller has to be light in weight and durable. The diamond pattern or similar is crucial, as the points and peaks of the diamond shapes create an even fittion surface around the roller. The points and peaks of the cast roller, may not be a specific diamond pattern but in a random pattern to increase friction.

As the alloy or composite material is tnanufaetd from one material, the roller expands and contracts at the same rate makinz the surface of the roller longer lasting and more durable. A second material may be used for strength pun)oses only (for Jointing between the mechanical part of the drive-aid mover and the roller) not for the functionality of the roller.

The benefits of the Alloy Roller': * Light in weight.

* Relatively easy to manuficp * Long lasting durable materiaj.

* Increasej pcrfonna of the product.

* Manufactured from one material. "-2--

Diagrams A Specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1: Variajojj alloy roller of diamond pattern, showing that the pattern may vax' to increase performance and hence increase friction, Figure 2: 3D aspect alloy roller of diamond pattern, displaying the gritty surface created by casting and or machining, Figure 3: 3D aspect alloy roller, displayjn4 the gritty surface created by casting and or machining.

Figure 4: Alloy roller away from the tyre mounted on a drive-aid (mover). The mile,' (drive-aid mover) is not being used, and pulled away from the tyre so that the trailer, caravan or not-self driven vehicle can be towed or moved without the aid of the roller, FigureS: Alloy roller against the tyre mounted on a drive-aid (mover), showing the position of the roller when it is being used.

Claims (2)

  1.
Claims 1. An állOyor composite friction roller' used to propel a tyre
in a drive-aid (mover) by creating enough friction between the roller and the tyre to propel the vehicle meaj to make a no -self driven vehicle Le. caravan or trailer move by the rotation of the alloy friction roller against the lyre, propel a lyre means making the tyroa by the friction roller being placed against the tyre with a force and rotated by a motor whieh may use a gear system to create enough torque to rotate the alloy roller, friction means a rough surface to grip the lyre, propel means movement of the not-self driven vehicle by the rotation of the alloy roller, not-self driven vehicle means trailers, in particuj& caravans, containing a propulsion unit when moving
  2. 2. An alloy or composite friction roller' as claimed in Claim I where the material used is light in weight, to reduce the overall weight of the drive-aid mover.

3. An alloy or composite friction roller' as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 where the roller material will increase the porn of the drive-aid mover.

4. An alloy or composiw friction wilt' as claimed in any previou claim, where the roller is manujhct by casting and/or machjnin.

5. An alloy or composite friction roller' as claims in any previous claim, where the roller iSmanuiacred by using one material for the whole of the roller. A second material may be used for Jointing between the rnecliacai part of the drive-aid mover and the roller 6. An alloy or composjw friction roller' system substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-4 of the accompany drawing8.

Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows Claims I. An alloy or composite friction roller with diamond, pyramid or similar, pattern of peaks and troughs on the outer surface is used to propel a tyre in a drive-aid (mover) by creating enough friction between the roller and the tyre to propel the vehicle means to make a not-self driven vehicle i.e. caravan or trailer move by the rotation of the alloy friction roller against the tyre, friction means a rough surface to grip the tyre, not-self driven vehicle means trailers, in particular caravans, containing a propulsion unit when moving.

2. An alloy or composite friction roller as claimed in Claim 1 where the material used is light in weight, to reduce the overall weight of the drive-aid mover.

3. An alloy or composite friction roller as claimed in any previous claim, where the roller is manufactured by casting and/or machining.

4. An alloy or composite friction roller as claimed in any previous claim, where the roller is manufactured by using one material for the whole of the roller.
