Bore-hole apparatus.-Casing slips for welldrilling apparatus comprise two or more separate segmental tapered units 11 each provided with a renewable gripping face a resting on the ledge 12 and held between vertical ribs 14 by a detachable plate 15 overlapping the gripping face, which has horizontal, spiral, or vertical serrations. Each slip unit has a pivoted handle 17 and a recess 20 to receive a lever to free the unit when locked.
